Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second movie in the series. It released in 2002, a year after The Sorcerer’s Stone, and was a huge box office hit. It made more money than the likes of Spider-Man, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and Men in Black II, with only The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers making more. Beyond that, it’s also the longest blockbuster in the entire series, with a runtime of two hours and 54 minutes.

Despite it being a long watch, the DVD and Blu-Rays also had a huge 14 deleted scenes. So, we’ll take a look at them and rank them from worst to best.

14 Seeing The Car Again

After Rubeus Hagrid is carted off to Azkaban, Harry and Ron decide to enter the Forbidden Forest. They do this on Hagrid’s orders, with the Hogwarts groundskeeper setting up a meeting involving Aragog, his old spider. There’s a deleted scene that shows Harry and Ron on their way to the showdown seeing the abandoned Ford Anglia from earlier on in the movie.

This is true to the book of the same name, with Ron noting how it’s turned “wild.” However, it didn’t add anything to the blockbuster and somewhat takes away from the drama when the car comes to their rescue soon afterward.

13 Harry And Ron Seeing Crabbe And Goyle Again

Harry and Ron take Polyjuice Potion in the Chamber of Secrets, turning them into Crabbe and Goyle. It’s an amusing moment, but the deleted scene is even funnier, showing the confused Slytherin students encountering themselves after they’ve woken up from a sleeping potion slipped to them by Hermione Granger.

However, this doesn’t happen in the books and opens up all sorts of plotholes. Had it been included, it would have led to questions about how Draco reacted and why they didn’t come after Harry and Ron. Instead, we feel it makes more narrative sense for them not to know who attacked them.

12 Harry Playing Quidditch

There’s a brief—and we mean brief—deleted scene of Harry playing for Gryffindor against Slytherin at Quidditch. Fans of the movie know we get to see the whole match play out, but Warner Bros, it seems, had plans to show us even more.

There’s a moment where Harry flies through the crowd, but the terrible use of CGI and green screens do nothing but drag the match out. For that reason, it narrowly misses out on the wooden spoon.

11 Colin Creevey Explains His Muggle Past

Colin Creevey isn’t as prominent in the Potter movies as he is in the books. In fact, he doesn’t appear again after the Chamber of Secrets, with a similar character, named Nigel, instead appearing in the Order of the Phoenix and three movies that follow.

Colin is obsessed with Harry, and there’s an omitted scene that sees him asking Ron to take a picture of himself with the Boy Who Lived, while he goes into detail about his muggle past. It comes low down because, quite frankly, fans didn’t need to know so much about him. Especially after he’s later cut, it’s probably for the best this scene ended up on the cutting room floor.

10 Harry Walks Out Of Borgin And Burkes

There’s more on Borgin and Burkes, the mysterious shop in Knockturn Alley, to come later. In the theatrical version of the story, Harry is able to get out of the shop relatively easily. But, on the DVD and Blu-Ray, there’s a clip that shows him confronted by the owner, Mr. Borgin.

Borgin asks if he needs any help, and, when Harry says “no,” he just lets him go. It’s all totally unnecessary, and that’s why it doesn’t come any higher. That said, there is a better moment involving the shopkeeper to come…

9 Harry Rants in The Snow

There’s another deleted scene that shows Harry ranting to Ron and Hermione. He expresses a concern that he may unwittingly be the Heir of Slytherin, attacking muggle-borns in his sleep without knowing it. They tell him how ridiculous this theory is, and we certainly agree.

Harry in the books definitely contemplates the idea, but he doesn’t speak out on it because he knows he’s definitely not responsible for the attacks ravaging Hogwarts. This would have been misleading had it been included, suggesting he even doubted himself, which is something that seldom happens throughout the series.

8 Justin Finch-Fletchley And Harry Meet

When Harry and Justin Finch-Fletchley meet for the first time in the Chamber of Secrets, it’s under unfortunate circumstances. It happens immediately after the Boy Who Lived speaks to a snake at the dueling club, leading to the rumors that Harry is actually a descendant of Salazar Slytherin himself.

In the omitted scene, Harry and Justin exchange pleasantries, with the latter hailing Gilderoy Lockhart, who had been appointed Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. We understand why this was left out, though, because it just isn’t necessary. Who needs to know about Justin when he’s barely in the movie, and the series, at all?

7 Ron Nearly Hits Kings Cross

When Harry and Ron find themselves unable to get to Hogwarts because of Dobby sealing the passageway, they’re forced into Plan B. This, it seems, involves the pair taking Mr. Weasley’s flying car and attempting to navigate their way to the castle, instead.

On the DVD and Blu Ray, there’s a part that shows Ron nearly hitting Kings Cross itself as he battles to get the vehicle under control. It’s pretty entertaining stuff, and we feel it should have made it into the final cut. It does, after all, set the tone for a nightmare journey that’s to follow.

6 Harry Runs Away

With muggle-borns dropping like flies and Harry being a parselmouth, everybody starts to point the finger at the Boy Who Lived. We can’t help but feel that’s ludicrous, especially given how he was the person responsible for Lord Voldemort disappearing many years ago, but people love a natter.

In a deleted scene, Harry storms out of class after overhearing Ernie MacMillan pointing the finger at himself during a study class. He then bumps into Rubeus Hagrid, who reveals his roosters are dying, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of things. Both things happen in the book, which is why it ranks in the middle, but it didn’t evolve the story in any way—which could be why it didn’t make the final cut.

5 Argus Filch’s Letter

As Harry and Ron are being punished by Severus Snape, Argus Filch accidentally drops a ‘Kwikspell’ letter. The scene immediately moves on, but not before showing the Hogwarts caretaker looking worried about what the boys may know. Because no context is given, it prevents this entry from listing higher.

However, in the Chamber of Secrets book, things are different. Harry, alone, finds the letter and discovers that Filch is actually a squib, somebody born into a wizarding family but without any magical powers. This should have been done to answer the question as to why Filch treats students so badly. The answer? Jealousy.

4 Prolonged Cake Scene

Early on in the Chamber of Secrets movie, Dobby the House Elf drops a cake on the house of Mrs. Mason, a dinner guest of the Dursleys. There’s no fallout from the scene really, and, when it jumps on, Harry is being locked away. destined to be a prisoner inside his own house. The deleted scene, though, does a better job of showing what happens next.

It’s hilarious as the Dursleys try to save the situation, with Aunt Petunia admitting they have ice cream for dinner while the Masons stare on in furious silence. In the book, this incident actually prevents Vernon from securing a huge business deal, which perhaps explains his decision to put bars on his nephew’s window.

3 Ron And Tom Riddle

When Harry and Ron are sat with Hermione, they talk about Tom Riddle’s own diary, and it dawns on Ron that he’d actually heard the name before.

He spent detention cleaning school trophies, but that task was made higher by him throwing up slugs all over them, with Ron still feeling the effects of his backfired curse earlier on in the movie. It’s a good bit of foreshadowing that suggests Riddle has even more importance and significance, paving the way for the big twist at the ending, which reveals that he’s actually Slytherin’s heir and that he is also Lord Voldemort himself.

2 Gilderoy Lockhart’s Quiz

Fans get to see just how poor at his job Gilderoy Lockhart is during the Chamber of Secrets movie. They see him leave students to deal with an outbreak of pixies, and he then admits that he’s not actually achieved anything throughout his life, instead taking responsibility for what other wizards and witches have done over the years.

But, there’s a deleted scene that would have been brilliant to see. It shows Lockhart giving his class a quiz, with all questions about himself. Hermione is glowing when she’s praised for receiving full marks, while Ron is utterly appalled by the situation. It’s a scene virtually straight out the books, and, for that reason, deserved to make it into the final product.

1 Lucius And Draco Meet Mr. Borgin

We mentioned before that there’s a scene involving Mr. Borgin we’d be holding back, and here it is. Taking the gold medal is the deleted scene set in Knockturn Alley when Harry is forced to hide as Lucius and Draco Malfoy both enter the shop.

It’s nerve-racking stuff as Harry scrambles to find a hiding spot. We then get a brilliant look into the Malfoys, showing how Lucius dominates his son and makes him do exactly what he wants.
