Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will introduce a whole host of alternate-universe Spider-Men to the big screen, including Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. Now Marvel’s official tie-in comic for the movie offers more evidence that the movie will include another: Spider-Punk.

The core concept of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a simple one, lifted straight from the comic event of the same name. Most fans are used to a reality where Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and gained super-powers, but in alternate dimensions other characters suffered that spider-bite. In the case of Spider-Punk, being a ‘hero’ meant taking on the establishment.

Created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, Spider-Punk is from a reality ruled by the fascist President Osborn and his Thunderbolt Department. When he gained spider-powers, Hobart Brown dedicated himself to taking down “the man,” and became known as Spider-Punk. The character was one of the most popular in Dan Slott’s “Spider-Verse” event, and more evidence suggests he’s making his way into Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie.

According to the official Marvel solicits for the official tie-in comic to be published in November, only one unconfirmed variation is mentioned by name. Here’s the solicit:

“Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse #1. With his ability to traverse the Multiverse, SPIDER-MAN assembles a team to track down a loose end from his past: the fate of the mighty GOG! Get ready for the upcoming film with this standalone adventure featuring some of your favorite Spider-Heroes: PETER PARKER! MILES MORALES! SPIDER-HAM! SPIDER-GWEN! SPIDER-PUNK! Also featuring a special presentation of SPIDER-MAN (2016) #1 — Miles Morales’ first adventure in the Prime Marvel Universe!”

All the other “Spider-Heroes” are already confirmed for the film, so the reference to Spider-Punk is naturally implying odds are good he’ll appear in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as well. That news won’t come as much of a surprise to alert fans, who have long speculated that Spider-Punk would appear based on the 2018 Marvel Legends Spider-Man figures. They feature a number of alternate-universe Spider-Men already confirmed for the animated movie (even including a Sp//dr build-a-figure). A Spider-Punk action figure was released in the first Spider-Man wave of the year, leading many to speculate he would be in the film too.

Hobart Brown is one of the most entertaining alt-universe Spider-Men, a punk rocker who makes his stand with an electric guitar in hand. His greatest moment was when he stirred the Spider-Army to war against Osborn with a powerful, emotional speech and “15,000 watts of punkrock, from an army of amps set to 11.

It now looks very likely indeed that he’ll be making his animated debut in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and presumably a voice actor will soon be announced. So far the cast includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, John Mulaney as Spider-Ham, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, and Nicholas Cage as Spider-Man Noir. But who will be joining as Spider-Punk?
