Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Hawkeye Episode 6

Bert and Bertie, the directing duo behind Marvel’s newest Disney+ series, Hawkeye, have praised Daredevil actor Vincent D’Onofrio and have said it was a “treat” to work with him on his return as Kingpin. Hawkeye sees Jeremy Renner return as Clint Barton alongside Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. The pair take on a number of “Avengers-level” challenges that threaten Barton’s chances of making it home for Christmas to be with his family. Fans have finally gotten their hands on the final Hawkeye episode 6, after episode 5 generated an insane amount of hype on social media, following the incredibly exciting reveal of D’Onofrio’s Kingpin right before the credits rolled.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Audiences were first introduced to D’Onofrio’s relentlessly terrifying crime lord in Daredevil back in 2015. However, despite the series being based on the Marvel comics, there has been a lot of back and forth over the years as to whether the stories are canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Wilson Fisk has received much acclaim from fans and critics alike over the years, with his name having become synonymous with the character for many people who felt as though the Men In Black actor nailed the specific character traits that made Kingpin so intimidating. Now, it appears as though Marvel are now finally acknowledging Netflix’s beloved Marvel series, such as Daredevil, by bringing these Marvel TV characters into the MCU, officially.

The directors behind Hawkeye, Bert and Bertie, have spoken out about working with D’Onofrio and witnessing his return as the beloved villain. Speaking to THR, the directors praised the actor and described him as “remarkable“, saying it was a “treat” to work with him. The pair went on to say that shooting with him was “one of [their] favorite days on set.” Check out their full quote below.

“We were lucky enough to work with him and to share time and space with him. He is the most remarkable actor, the way he holds space. That was a treat. That was one of our favorite days on set.”

Bert and Bertie also shared that it meant a lot to them to get to work with D’Onofrio, as he had become a fan-favorite villain after his appearance in Daredevil. The pair spoke to Kingpin’s “intense sociopathic, evilness” and how that ultimately helped to up the stakes of the series. D’Onofrio’s Hawkeye co-star, Steinfeld also recently praised his character’s return and revealed that she had been a fan of his for a very long time, sharing her gratefulness to have worked with him on this new series.

As for what the future holds for Kingpin in the MCU, this certainly remains to be seen, as Hawkeye‘s season finale appeared to cast some doubt over the future of the character after he was shot off-camera by Echo as the episode drew to a close. As with a number of previous apparent ‘deaths’ in the Marvel Universe, this isn’t necessarily confirmation that this will be the last that audiences will see of the beloved crime boss, but it certainly begs the question as to where the character could pop up next. As for now, it’s exciting to hear that the Hawkeye directors were just as delighted as Daredevil fans were to see D’Onofrio back in Kingpin’s iconic white suit, and fans will no doubt be eagerly awaiting to see what’s next for the character.
