A Marvel fan has made a video comparing the opening scene of Hawkeye with its equivalent scene from 2012’s The AvengersHawkeye is the fourth live-action Disney+ series from Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series picks up the story of Jeremy Renner’s arrow-slinging Clint Barton after partially losing his hearing and retiring from the Avengers, following him as he reluctantly agrees to partner with the archery ingénue Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. The first two episodes of Hawkeye premiered on November 24, 2021 and the remaining episodes are set to air weekly on Wednesdays.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The opening scene of Hawkeye episode 1 explores the origin of Kate Bishop’s fandom for Clint Barton. When she was a kid in 2012, her family’s high-rise apartment was at the center of the Battle of New York where the Avengers fended off the Chitauri invasion in their first ever team-up. One of the monsters approaches the blasted-out wall of her building and nearly attacks her before being taken down by an arrow. Kate then watches in awe as Hawkeye performs a series of heroic stunts from the roof of a building across the street, vowing to emulate him so she can protect her family.

The scene Kate Bishop witnesses is a recreation of a Battle of New York moment from The Avengers, so Twitter user Tony Stank created a video showing both scenes playing out side by side. This video shows how much detail went into in recreating this particular moment from nearly a decade earlier in the MCU. It’s a real testament to the long legacy that the character of Hawkeye is bringing to this latest series. Check out the video below:

Hawkeye has four more episodes set to air after the premiere and will continue following Kate and Clint down the rabbit hole as they investigate the web of crime she uncovered. Throughout New York’s Christmas season, they will face off against a variety of deadly threats, including the Tracksuit Mafia. Black Widow‘s Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, is also set to appear soon and make good on her mission promised by that film’s end credit sequence.

Hawkeye‘s decision to have Kate Bishop’s origin come directly from the fallout of the Battle of New York is one of the benefits of the franchise having run for so long at this point. This has allowed the MCU to expand and explore all the different threads that resulted from the events of its own history, having its characters literally grow up along with the audiences at home. Steinfeld and Renner have already established a strong dynamic in the first two episodes of the series, so it will be a delight for fans to see how this connection in their past will drive the characters and their interactions in future episodes.
