In an amazing new cosplay, Justice League’s Hawkgirl gets a Themysciran makeover that would make Wonder Woman proud. Hawkgirl is one of the fiercest warriors in the DC Universe, and thanks to Twitter user @Graciecosplay, she looks fiercer than ever, ready to ride into battle with the Amazons.

Hawkgirl’s history in the DC Universe stretches back to the 1940s, with the first incarnation appearing in Flash Comics #1. Much like her frequent lover Hawkman, Hawkgirl has gone through many incarnations and, at times, her history can be just as muddled. The most popular version of Hawkgirl is Shayera Hol, a law enforcement official from the planet Thanagar, who came to Earth with her husband tracking criminals. The two decided to stay on Earth, using Thanagarian technology to fight crime. Both eventually joined the Justice League of America; Hawkgirl is a member of the League’s current lineup. This incarnation has broken through to the mainstream, appearing in the animated series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Regardless of what medium she is depicted in, Hawkgirl is always portrayed as a fierce, but noble warrior. These are qualities the Amazons of Themyscira embody, and an epic new cosplay mashes the worlds of Thanagar and Themyscira together, with amazing results.

In a post uploaded to Twitter, user Gracie the Cosplay Lass showcased an outtake from the shoot, calling it “Themyscira Hawkgirl,” noting it was an original concept. Wearing a white gown reminiscent of those worn by the most decadent of Amazons on Themyscira, Hawkgirl stands on the island’s shores, her wings spread wide. In one hand she holds her helmet and another her mace. Staring off into the distance, Themysciran Hawkgirl is ready for a fight. Fans have responded enthusiastically to the photo, showering it with likes and praising the costume, with many complimenting the wings in particular. Take a look:

Hawkgirl is one of DC’s most underrated characters, more often taking a backseat to Hawkman. Her backstory can be just as convoluted as Hawkman’s, which does not help. However, thanks in large part to her roles in the Justice League cartoons, the character has achieved greater visibility in the DC Universe, leading to her current tenure with the League. In the Justice League cartoons, Hawkgirl was one of the bravest members of the team, ultimately standing up to her own people when they decided to invade her adopted home world. Even in her exile, she continued to fight the good fight. These qualities of justice and mercy can also be found in the Amazons that live on Themyscira, and Gracie the Cosplay Lass’ awesome new shoot shows that Hawkgirl would have been right at home on the island.

DC has established that Hawkgirl has had many lives across the years thanks to reincarnation, which does not rule out a variant living on Themyscira at some point in its history, fighting alongside Wonder Woman. This epic new cosplay shows what that might look like.
