While new releases are winding down, HBO Max has an exciting slate of movies and TV shows coming to the streaming service in February 2022. Although most streaming services eventually opted to move to sole theatrical premieres, HBO Max maintained its trend of releasing new films with day-and-date premieres for streaming and theaters throughout 2021. But, the new year has changed the platform’s plans for dual streaming releases, meaning the service will see a sharp decline in film debuts for 2022, thus focusing more on their TV show premieres for the month of February. This also means viewers shouldn’t get their hopes up for 2022’s The Batman coming to HBO Max in March.

The January 2022 additions to HBO Max were a triumphant beginning to the new year, with the streaming service bringing back the Harry Potter fandom for its exclusive Harry Potter 20th Reunion: Return to Hogwarts special on New Year’s Day. HBO Max then proceeded with several long-awaited series premieres of TV shows like Euphoria season 2 (January 9), Peacemaker (January 13), and The Gilded Age (January 25). January 2022 also saw the removal of the Warner Bros. sequel The Matrix Resurrections, which will return to HBO Max after its exclusive theatrical period.

February 2022 will see the premiere of only one new movie on the service in Stephen Soderbergh’s KIMI (February 10), starring Zoë Kravitz. HBO Max’s February 2022 TV titles will also feature the season 2 premiere of Raised by Wolves (February 3) and season 1 premiere of The Girl Before (February 10), while the season 1 finale of And Just Like That releases on February 3. Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho and The Sopranos’ prequel Many Saints of Newark, both of which had their initial premiere on HBO Max in October 2021, return to the service on February 3 and February 17, respectively. Other 2021 titles making their first appearance on HBO Max after theatrical releases are Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley (February 1), Antlers (February 11), The King’s Man (February 18), Free Guy (February 23), and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch (February 25). Of course, the addition of so many new titles in February 2022 also means that numerous movies and TV shows will be exiting the lineup before the end of the month. Leaving HBO Max in February 2022 will be Dunkirk (February 11), Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 (February 25), Birds of Prey (February 28), Joker (February 28), and Kong: Skull Island (February 28). Since the Harry Potter reunion was an HBO Max original title, subscribers don’t have to worry about it leaving the service in February. While several popular titles are leaving HBO Max in February 2022, subscribers can still look ahead to movies and TV shows premiering later in the year, including House of the Dragon, Barry, and the return of Dune in March.
