The ending forShazam! has received aZack Snyder’s Justice League upgrade — with Henry Cavill’s Superman now wearing his black suit in a video edit of that famous cameo. Directed by David F. Sandberg, the installment was released in 2019 and took the DCEU in a new direction. Embracing a more light-hearted, wish-fulfillment tone, Shazam told the story of Billy Batson. After moving to a new foster home, the troubled teenager crossed paths with an ancient wizard. From him, Billy received the power to transform himself into an adult superhero. The dual aspects were played by Asher Angel and Zachary Levi, respectively.

His newfound abilities soon drew the attention of the villainous Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong). In order to defeat him, and creatures representing the seven deadly sins, Billy united with Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and the rest of his foster siblings. Granting them similar transformative powers, they became the Shazam Family — and the DCEU’s first superhero family overall. In the wake of their world-saving success, Billy decided to reward Freddy. With the entire school present, Billy adopted his now-famous Shazam persona to join Freddy for lunch. As if that wasn’t enough, he revealed that he’d brought a friend along too. Amid multiple gasps (including one from Freddy), that friend was revealed to be Superman.

Unfortunately, due to scheduling, the part was played by a stand-in. As such, Kal-El’s face was never revealed, with only his costume made visible. That has since led to countless edits, adding Cavill’s version of Superman fully into the scene. The latest was posted by Movila on Youtube. Rather than the traditional red, yellow, and blue costume, however, the new video depicted Superman wearing his famous black suit. Other than that, the scene remained completely unchanged. Composited by Alessandro Costanzo, the result is a stunningly blended scene that will surely please many fans. Check it out below:

Cavill debuted as Superman back in 2013’s Man of Steel. He later returned for multiple highly-divisive sequels. Besides the aforementioned cameo, the character has yet to make a fresh appearance in the official DCEU. Cavill did, however, reprise the role in the highly-anticipated Snyder Cut of Justice League. Released via HBO Max, Snyder’s version of the DC Comics team-up has proven definitive for many and been generally more well-received. One of the most crowd-pleasing elements, among many, was getting to see Superman in the above black suit. Regardless of the film’s success and a renewed passion for him in the role, Cavill’s future as Superman in the DCEU has remained in doubt.

That hasn’t stopped fans from fiercely campaigning, however. Following the success of the “Release the Snyder Cut” movement, things have shifted to “Restore the SnyderVerse”. Despite Warner Bros’ commitment to separate from Snyder’s original vision, the opposing hashtag has garnered over one million tweets. The above video will almost assuredly spur on such efforts. After all, Superman still wore the black suit at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. As such, Black Suit Superman appearing in Shazam! would mean that its continuity was being adhered to over the theatrical cut. Even if such retcons never come to pass, though, the video will at least stand as an amusing taste of what could have been.
