After a  report indicated Henry Cavill’s The Witcher season 2 salary to be $400k per episode, sources now reveal the star to be making far more. Cavill stars in the fantasy drama as Geralt of Rivia, the titular monster hunter as he ventures through the medieval landmass known as the Continent. During his journey, Geralt will learn his destiny is linked to that of Cintran princess Cirilla, with season 2 focusing on their meeting and his efforts to protect her from the dangerous forces hunting her down and her burgeoning magical powers.

Alongside Cavill, the cast for The Witcher includes Freya Allen as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Geralt’s love interest and quarter-elf sorceress Yennefer, Eamon Farren as Nilfgaardian commander Cahir, Joey Batey as bard Jaskier, Mimi Ndiweni as Nilfgaard’s sorceress ally Fringilla and Anna Shaffer as sorceress Triss Merigold. Season 2 of the series will introduce Kim Bodnia to the cast as iconic character Vesemir, the oldest living witcher and Geralt’s mentor and father figure. With The Witcher‘s return right around the corner, new details are coming out regarding the making of season 2.

The Hollywood Reporter recently ran a feature for Cavill and his current busy schedule, including the highly anticipated The Witcher season 2. Sources revealed to the publication that Cavill’s salary for the next chapter of the Netflix series is $1 million per episode. Cavill reportedly signed a new deal to increase his Witcher season 2 salary, though no indication was given as to when this deal was signed outside of the star having “just signed” it.

The updated numbers of Cavill’s Witcher season 2 salary is certainly a step up from the previous report of his payday, where he was stated to be making $400k per episode. With no timeline given as to when he signed the deal to make $1 million for each episode, it’s unclear whether the prior report was a misinformed one or if he and Netflix worked together to net him a larger payday for the soon-to-be-released new chapter. Whatever the case may be, Cavill earning more money is sure to be a show of good faith from the streaming service for his work on the series and its future.

Said future for the show is already looking bright, with Netflix having already renewed The Witcher for season 3 three months ahead of its return. Additionally, the franchise around it continues to expand with the live-action prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, a second anime film after the success of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and an animated kid-friendly series set in the universe. The wait for Cavill’s Geralt to return is nearly over as The Witcher season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 17.
