Hidden Pikmin Spotted In Super Nintendo World Photo

Earlier this month, fans got the first real look at Nintendo’s Super Nintendo World theme park when Shigeru Miyamoto led a camera crew through several of its attractions, but recently leaked pictures of the park show something that was not on the official tour, an easily missed gaggle of Pikmin. Though the project was announced nearly five years ago, details on the theme park were scarce.

The few glimpses of Super Nintendo World which emerged before Nintendo’s official preview came from an assortment of sources, perhaps spurred by the news that Universal Studios Japan was delaying the park’s July 2020 opening due to the global pandemic. Though reports insisted that the construction was almost complete, park officials did not give a new opening date and the project seemed to be postponed until further notice. Following quickly after the news of the delay, a Twitter post showed off a larger swath of Super Nintendo World than had been seen before. The footage, though filmed some distance off, captured the general layout of the park and some of its charming, Nintendo-inspired atmosphere. Several months later, The Sankei News issued photos of the park which detailed various locations like the Super Star entrance, Bowser’s castle, the Dry Dry Desert pyramids.

According to a GoNintendo article, it seems that the latest look at Super Nintendo World comes from visitors lucky enough to get an early preview of the park who posted a picture showcasing a group of the multicolored Pikmin. A single detail on the right side of the photo even gives viewers a clue as to where to find the sneaky little bunch. A sign, which has been cut off in the image, clearly shows the letter ‘K’. Looking through Nintendo’s official Direct, the sign’s design looks like the one hanging over the park’s Kinopio’s Café. Kinopio is the Japanese name of the Mario character the Western audience might better know as Toad.

Though it is unknown whether or not the Pikmin franchise will get its own attraction in the Mario-centric theme park, the series has gotten some attention recently. Nintendo released a new version of Pikmin 3, which originally released on the Wii U console, for the Switch called Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Though the cute, tiny creatures seem to have remained animated as ever and Pikmin 3 Deluxe includes a handful of new content, the physical sales of the latest version have apparently lagged behind the original’s numbers. However, this may be due to more players buying digital games this year.

Nintendo’s Super Mario World is now officially set to open on February 4, 2021, and there is sure to be a flood of images depicting the park and its attractions. Though for many, being able to see everything in person remains impossible, it is exciting news that Super Nintendo World will eventually be featured in Universal Studios’ locations around the world, including Hollywood.
