Hilarious Star Wars Theory Could Explain Book of Boba Fett’s Weakness

Boba Fett looks surprisingly weak in the early episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, and an old Star Wars theory may finally explain why. The Book of Boba Fett showcases Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett in both the past and the present. Flashbacks in the series recall how Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc pit after his fall in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. The series also shows how Tusken Raiders capture Boba Fett once he makes it onto the sands of Tatooine, and he eventually becomes accepted as one of their own. Besides the flashbacks, the Disney+ show follows Boba Fett in the present as he tries to replace Jabba the Hutt as the crime lord on Tatooine. The present-day storyline follows up on a post-credits scene in The Mandalorian season 2, where Boba Fett kills Bib Fortuna (Matthew Wood) and takes Jabba’s former throne.

Book of Boba Fett completely retcons the character’s journey in the Star Wars universe. Though the character rose to popularity through a minor role in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, his embarrassing fall into the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi seemed to mark his death. The creature even belches after consuming the bounty hunter. And fans lamented the loss ever since. However, The Mandalorian season 2 brought Boba Fett back into Star Wars, and The Book of Boba Fett continues to answer questions about his journey.

Over the years, a Star Wars theory popped up to explain why Boba Fett fell into the Sarlacc, and the idea may also explain why Boba Fett looked so weak in The Book of Boba Fett. The bounty hunter’s new show drew criticism for Boba Fett looking like a bad fighter in its early episodes. After all, a Tusken Raider defeats the bounty hunter in one-on-one combat during the series premiere. However, following Boba Fett’s tumble into the Sarlacc, fans speculated that he was drunk or drugged ahead of his last battle in Return of the Jedi. This theory could also explain why a Tusken Raider defeated him in combat.

If Boba Fett were drunk or drugged, it would certainly explain his lack of fighting skills. Boba Fett rose to popularity as a bounty hunter who had a penchant for disintegrating things. However, Book of Boba Fett demystifies the character’s timeline, showing an entirely different side to him. Boba Fett seems surprisingly inept at fighting in the series until the Tusken Raiders teach him their ways. In addition, the theory that Boba Fett was drugged before he fell into the Sarlacc pit speculates that Bib Fortuna was behind the misdeed. If so, that would also give more meaning to Boba Fett killing the Twi’lek in the Mandalorian post-credits scene.

Of course, there are other reasons for Boba Fett looking weak. In The Book of Boba Fett, the Sarlacc is digesting the bounty hunter before he finally escapes. The Tusken Raiders then treat him poorly while taking him prisoner, even dragging him across the sand. So when he goes up against the Tusken Raider in a Book of Boba Fett fight, he’s not likely at full strength. However, the Star Wars show never explicitly shows that the Sarlacc is the reason for Boba Fett’s weakness. And if someone drugged him before the Sarlacc, it makes sense that he’d still feel the effects in The Book of Boba Fett.
