Before Hilary Duff rose to fame starring on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire, she had several smaller roles. The highest-rated movie that she has technically appeared in is the 1998 film Playing By Heart, however, her role as an extra went uncredited.

The next highest-rated is the comedy Human Nature, in which Duff portrayed the young Lila Jute.  The movie was released in the same that Duff got her big break playing Lizzie McGuire, so it could be viewed as a stepping stone more than anything else.

In 2009, Hilary Duff starred in According to Greta, a drama film about a suicidal teenager who spends the summer living with her grandparents, a decision which ultimately turns her life around for the better.

The average IMDb rating of the film, in which Duff portrayed the titular character of Greta, was 6.1 stars. The 2010 film Bloodworth, which Duff also appeared in, was also given 6.1 stars by IMDb.

Hilary Duff is easy to miss in Cheaper by the Dozen, but only because she plays one of twelve children. In this remake of the 1950 film of the same name, Duff portrays Lorraine, second-eldest daughter of Tom and Kate Baker who struggle to look after their dozen kids and still find time for their career goals.

4 What Goes Up (2009) – 5.4

2009 was quite a big year for Hilary Duff, who also appeared in the film What Goes Up that year. The movie is set in the ’80s and focuses on a reporter covering the Challenger Space Shuttle launch. While investigating, the reporter becomes involved in the lives of a few local students.

Duff portrays the role of Lucy Diamond, one of the students and ringleader of a group of outcasts.

3 Flock Of Dudes (2016) – 5.3
