40 years later, History of the World Part 1 is getting a sequel in the form of a Hulu series, aptly titled History of the World Part 2History of the World Part 1 came out in 1981 and embraced the campy, spoofy style of Mel Brooks’ past works including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers and Space Balls. Through a variety of skits and musical numbers, Part 1 parodied major events in human history. One of the most memorable musical numbers from the film is “Jews in Space.”

Variety confirmed that History of the World Part 2 is coming to Hulu. The sequel will be released as series that is broken into eight episodes. Brooks will be returning for the sequel as a writer and executive producer. Brooks starred in several roles the first time around, but it’s unclear if he will this go-around. Other executive producers include Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen and Kevin Salter. Brooks told the outlet that he is particularly interested in exposing the truth about history (not just what’s in the history books) as he did with the original film, saying “I can’t wait to once more tell the real truth about all the phony baloney stories the world has been conned into believing are History!

It’ll be intriguing to see which historical events Brooks will cover this time around. He hasn’t revealed which events will be included in Part 2, but they may not have been selected yet since the writers room only just started this month. However, it shouldn’t be hard to choose since 2020 alone has provided a ton of material. Since the original film covered events far in the past, he has all of the 1800s, 1900s and 2000s to get material from. More on this will come as production begins on History of the World Part 2 in Spring 2022.
