The characters in Schitt’s Creek are more likely to sort themselves according to fashion preferences than they are to figure out their appropriate Hogwarts houses. In fact, the family members of the broke video store empire probably aren’t even familiar with the Harry Potter franchise or what the different Hogwarts houses would even mean for them.

It’s certainly entertaining to wonder how David or Moira Rose would handle having to wear the same uniform as everyone else. They’d probably each find a way to make their school uniform their own, leaving everyone else in their fashionable dust. Here’s a fun breakdown of each character’s Hogwarts house and why they deserve to be there.

10 Stevie Budd: Hufflepuff

Initially, Stevie Budd was a loner with a fondness for sarcasm. While the latter remains true, the former might never have been true to begin with. Stevie uses sarcasm to showcase amusement, hide insecurities, and as a defense mechanism when upset. It’s a very versatile method of communication, and sometimes it pushes people away.

Stevie isn’t entirely comfortable with this. She’s hung on to the family motel for years instead of selling it and she’s a loyal member of the Rose family, even if she wasn’t born into it. Stevie values these relationships above everything. She’s definitely a Hufflepuff.

9 David Rose: Gryffindor

David is difficult to sort. He’s got encyclopedic fashion knowledge, but he’s not a Ravenclaw. Though loyal to his sister, he’s not always concerned with playing fair, so he’s not a Hufflepuff either. David can be manipulative like a Slytherin, but he doesn’t have the drive or ambition. His love for attention and tendency to always believe he’s right slides him towards Gryffindor.

David is brave, though not in the knight-in-shining-armor way. He’s willing to have difficult conversations, even when it makes him uncomfortable. David also saved his money and started his own business, diving into life in Schitt’s Creek, despite his family’s previous ventures failing.

8 Patrick Brewer: Ravenclaw

Patrick has the loyal and hardworking aspects of a Hufflepuff, but his love for learning new things makes him more of a Ravenclaw. The audience knows Patrick has a good head on his shoulders given his business knowledge when he and David first meet. Patrick’s interest in music and art also gets him a little closer to that Ravenclaw sorting.

There’s also the fact that Patrick absorbs information like a sponge. Yes, he’s interested in David early on, but everything he learns about the Rose family (and David in particular) seem to be instantly memorized. He wants information about everything.

7 Jocelyn Schitt: Hufflepuff

Jocelyn always seems composed. She’s a quiet force on Schitt’s Creek, proud of her small town and the people in it. She never falters when Moira makes a dig at her lifestyle and she continues to work hard, even when someone takes over her projects. With her busy schedule, Jocelyn has the “unafraid of toil” aspect of Hufflepuffs down.

Besides being a teacher, she’s the mayor’s wife, a mother, involved in local music and theater productions, and ready with a helping hand. She wants everyone follows the rules and has a fair chance to accomplish their goals. Jocelyn is certainly a Hufflepuff.

6 Roland Schitt: Slytherin

Like his wife, Roland understands loyalty well. He’s incredibly proud of his family legacy in Schitt’s Creek. He, however, is not as interested in fair play as she is, and his ambition is bigger than his work ethic.

Roland enjoys being the person in charge a little too much. He’s not above finding loopholes to make sure he (or his family) get their way in town. Likewise, he’ll do whatever he has to do to ensure himself a win. That sounds like pretty Slytherin behavior, even if he’s not quite as cunning as he’d like to be.

5 Twyla Sands: Hufflepuff

Twyla is a lot like Jocelyn in terms of temperament and work ethic. It’s no surprise they end up in the same Hogwarts house. During the entire run of Schitt’s Creek, Twyla has been a fixture at the diner. It doesn’t matter what time of day a character goes in for a meal, she’s there to serve.

The one time she does get overwhelmed, Johnny helps her out and ends up with a whole new appreciation for how difficult her job is. It’s a wonder Twyla manages to find time to participate in the Jazzagals or perform in Cabaret.

4 Alexis Rose: Gryffindor

Some Schitt’s Creek fans might be surprised by a Gryffindor sorting for Alexis. After all, she’s pretty shallow and didn’t really understand when she was doing something wrong. Alexis, however, is a Gryffindor in the same ways her brother is.

Growing up in a privileged household, Alexis had the chance to do whatever she wanted. She also got herself into sticky situations but she always found her way out. Since living in Schitt’s Creek, Alexis made the courageous decision to return to high school. Despite being well into her twenties, Alexis attended school with a bunch of teens, got her diploma, went to college, and decided to start freelancing. She completely defied everyone’s expectations.

3 Ted Mullens: Ravenclaw

To become a veterinarian, you have to be able to retain a lot of information about people’s pets. In Ted’s case, he’s also got to have a working knowledge of most farm animals. We’ve got to sort him into Ravenclaw.

Ted isn’t just good at his job. He’s also able to use his knowledge about treatments for animals and apply it to humans. For example, Ted helps Alexis when her high school is overridden with lice. Ted even found himself with a once in a lifetime opportunity to work in the Galapagos, a chance he took to satisfy his curiosity.

2 Johnny Rose: Hufflepuff

There’s a part of Johnny who would be at home in Slytherin. He, after all, is a man of ambition. Johnny, however, isn’t manipulative enough for Slytherin. Instead, he’s a man who values his family and keeping them together.

Despite once being a millionaire, Johnny values fairness rather than getting ahead. He has a deep sense of loyalty, valuing those new friends he made in Schitt’s Creek rather than the old ones who ignored his plight. All of his plans involve providing for his family and making sure they end up happy. He couldn’t be anything other than a Hufflepuff.

1 Moira Rose: Slytherin

Though she often tries to hide it, Moira Rose has a big heart. This doesn’t stop her from giving in to selfish actions and trying to claw her way back to the top. Her ambition alone makes her a Slytherin.

Since the Rose family’s fall from grace, Moira continually resists feeling at home in Schitt’s Creek. She wants nothing more than to become the star she once was and have all the perks that came with her status. Moira tries to get that status back by leading activities and joining the town council, but she still keeps jumping at the chance to get out of town – no matter what she has to do.
