Are Robert Pattinson and Carey Mulligan still set to star in kidnapping thriller Hold On To Me or has the project been canceled? Robert Pattinson broke through thanks to his role in The Twilight Saga as vampire Edward, but following the final installment of the series, Pattinson used his star power to work on smaller projects. This includes two collaborations with the great David Cronenberg – Cosmopolis and Map To The Stars The Rover and The Lighthouse. He’s only recently started to move back towards more mainstream fare like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and – of course – the titled role in The Batman.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In 2012 Pattinson signed on to co-star in Hold On To Me opposite Carey Mulligan. The movie was based on a real-life case and would have revolved around Mulligan’s Nancy, who after returning to her hometown following a failed attempt at a modeling career, tries to reconnect with ex Jimmy, (Pattinson), who has since become a rich criminal. He rebuffs her, so she plans with new love Danny to kidnap and random Jimmy, which goes wrong for all involved.

The movie was previously dubbed Nancy And Danny and James Marsh signed on to direct in 2012, but what’s the current status of Hold On To Me?

Hold On To Me Was Delayed In 2013

During an interview to promote The Great Gatsby for MTV News back in 2013, Carey Mulligan confirmed that Hold On To Me had been delayed indefinitely. The actress explained the production didn’t come together in the time they had, but that she was still hoping it would move ahead in the future.

No Further Updates Were Offered For Hold On To Me

While its likely producers worked to keep Hold On To Me alive, no further updates about the movie were heard following Mulligan’s interview. Both the actress and Pattinson had a busy slate of projects around this era, so it’s possible that after the project missed its initial window that a mix of scheduling and talent moving on to other projects saw progress on the movie grow cold.

Hold On To Me Isn’t Happening

While Hold On To Me is still listed as being in development, it’s looking very doubtful it will happen now. It’s possible the project could be revived with a new creative team in the future, but Carey Mulligan and Robert Pattinson have since moved on. James Marsh has since helmed The Theory Of Everything and is next set to direct Andrew Garfield in the musical biopic Instrumental.
