One Horizon Zero Dawn player was able to unleash a swam of Watchers against a hulking Thunderjaw in a clash seemingly pulled from a movie. Released on the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and later ported to PC in 2020, Horizon Zero Dawn tells the story of Aloy, an outcast searching for the truth about her lost family in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by feral robots. As one of the first PS4 exclusive titles to be ported to PC, Horizon Zero Dawn has seen its fair share of fan mods, including a Horizon Zero Dawn mod that adds VR support to Guerilla Games’ immersive and impressive sci-fi world.

The dinosaur-like robot creatures that populate the ruins of Horizon Zero Dawn‘s world come in many different shapes and sizes, from the small, drone-like Watchers to the massive fan-favorite Brachiosaurs-like Tallnecks. Thanks to the variety, the machines have become instantly recognizable and beloved gaming foes. While Aloy spends most of her time hunting these various machines, she eventually gains the Override ability as one of the many tools at her disposal. This skill allows her to travel the landscape or find allies to help her survive against larger and more formidable foes by taking control of Horizon Zero Dawns’ metal beasts, which she can then use as mounts. Sometimes though, all Aloy needs to do is simply stand aside and let the machines take themselves out when one makes the mistake of entering Watcher territory.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a Horizon Zero Dawn gameplay video by Maqsimous. shared to Reddit by DewyMossEmpire (via GamesRadar), an army of 50 raptor-like Watchers face off against a mammoth Thunderjaw. Things start normally enough, with Aloy hunting the Thunderjaw amid a heavy rainstorm. However, she turns around to see a swarm of Watchers charging at the larger beast like a scene out of Jurassic Park. While the post doesn’t explicitly confirm this, some commenters believe that this was done on the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the player using mods to purposefully spawn a massive number of Watchers near the Thunderjaw’s location.

Horizon ZeroDawn‘s ever-growing fanbase has created and enjoyed many mods in the years since it came to PC, offering new gameplay to give users different ways to experience the classic title. As well as fan mods changing up what the Guerrilla release typically allows in a vanilla playthrough, the world of Horizon is soon set to expand officially with the upcoming release of its sequel Horizon Forbidden West. The game will take players beyond the ruined United States that serves as the backdrop of Zero Dawn. Additionally, Guerilla Games recently announced Horizon Call of the Mountain, a VR spin-off for the upcoming PlayStation VR 2 that the developer promises will push the boundaries of VR gaming technology.

In the meantime, fans are still enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn even a good four years after it first emerged on the PS4, as shown in this impressive confrontation between a Thunderjaw and 50 Watchers. Even if the video does use mods, it serves to prove that in the wild and untamed world of Horizon Zero Dawn, it isn’t always size that matters in a battle of the machines. It’s unclear if Horizon Forbidden West will come to PC, though it’s likely that if it does, there’s set to be even more creative fan mods.
