After waiting for two years, Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley’s The Beauty reaches its conclusion this September in a one-shot published by Image Comics. One part It Follows and one part Twin Peaks, the series is a procedural horror series about a sexually transmitted disease people crave to make them look more beautiful. Everything’s great until the first person with “The Beauty” disease dies. There is a conspiracy afoot, and Detectives Vaughn and Foster are on the case.

Jeremy Haun is the writer and artist of the horror anthology Haunthology, which collects stories inspired by the pandemic, and he has also done the artwork for series like Batman: Streets of Gotham and scribed books such as The Red Mother. His writing partner Hurley previously worked on the English translation of the Levius/est manga. Their creation The Beauty was the winner of Top Cow’s 2011 Pilot Season, a yearly event in which readers vote for one of six one-shot pilot issues with the highest voted titles becoming ongoing series.

Newsarama reported on the finale, which will be contained in a special 48-page one-shot called The Beauty: All Good Things. Haun and Hurley return to finish writing the series, but the artwork will be handled by Matthew Dow Smith. In addition to working on previous issues of The Beauty, Smith has worked as an artist on a variety of comics including The X-Files, Doctor Who, and Batman ’66 Meets Steed and Mrs. Peel. Haun will likely also be doing parts of the artwork too. The colorist for the one-shot will be Brett Weldele, who previously worked with Haun on 40 Seconds. The cover will be by Jeremy Haun with colors by Nick Filardi (Justice League, Nightwing).

The official description for the issue keeps all the details tightly wrapped of what could be coming with the conclusion, giving us the hashtag #BEAUTYFREE. Newsarama also pulled a quote from Haun’s newsletter about the one-shot: “You’ve all waited so patiently for this one. I’m proud to finally get to announce the conclusion to my and Jason Hurley’s long epic story about the lengths we go to in order to be ‘beautiful,'” he said, adding: “The Beauty: All Good Things wraps up this series in exactly the way we always planned.”

It’s been two years since the last issue of The Beauty, issue #29, was released. Fans of the series can finally get the closure they’ve been seeking from the creative team. Hopefully, the finale will have been worth the wait for fans. The special one-shot, The Beauty: All Good Things, will be available in comic book stores on September 1, 2021, for $4.99. The long wait is almost over.
