In a world where online multiplayer is the norm for video games, it’s great to be able to turn on split-screen in Hot Wheels Unleashed for any platform. Split-screen doesn’t require players to be connected to the internet. Hot Wheels Unleashed splits the screen vertically, placing player one on the left side and player two on the right. Both screens show off enough information for each player to be able to see their surroundings during a race.

In split-screen mode, player two cannot unlock achievements. While player two is treated as a guest account, they have all the same unlocks and equipped liveries as player one. As long as player one has them, then player two has access to the best cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed. If player two wants to have a different livery equipped, player one should equip the livery in the quick match loading screen. This saves the livery to the vehicle and allows player two to choose that vehicle with the livery already equipped.

Hot Wheels Unleashed’s split screen is one of the selections under “Quick Modes.” Player one’s input device will be whatever was used to select the mode, while player two’s device is the next available connected device. For PC, this means that if player one uses a controller then player two’s next input device is the mouse and keyboard. However, for those used to a controller, it can be more difficult to win races in Hot Wheels Unleashed with a keyboard and mouse. Player two can activate a controller on a PC just by connecting it to the system and confirming the input device when the player two menu appears. Xbox and PlayStation systems will operate normally with separate controller inputs, and Switch users can choose to either use joy-cons or a controller.

How To Use Split Screen In Hot Wheels Unleashed

After activating player two, both players have an opportunity to dial in their preferred keys. By default, the settings will be whatever player one has equipped or the default settings of Hot Wheels Unleashed. In addition to having all of the same cars unlocked as player one, both player one and player two can use the same vehicles if they prefer.

Unfortunately, player one doesn’t earn any of Hot Wheels Unleashed’s Coins or Gears for winning a race in local, split-screen multiplayer mode. Additionally, the only noticeable change between full screen and split-screen is that split-screen gets rid of the group placement of cars, but it keeps the individual placement. Both players keep their own timestamp per lap as well

Hot Wheels Unleashed is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
