Since its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has gotten a lot of bad press. From bugs and glitches to reports of crunch development, the game’s launch has been anything but smooth. Now, lots of PS4 and Xbox One users are discovering the graphics for the game on those consoles actually look pretty bad – despite Cyberpunk 2077 originally planning to release before the next-gen consoles would arrive.

From faces that look like potatoes to NPCs with blocky, pixelated bodies (see picture above), the graphics for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One are pretty awful. It’s so off from what was shown in all of the marketing material, in fact, that developer CD Projekt Red has offered refunds to PS4 and Xbox One users. The company also promised updates to fix these problems, although that may be a small consolation to people who already own the game, and CDPR has admitted the PS4 and Xbox One versions will never look as good as the game does on PC.

Twitter users were quick to share their experiences with the terrible performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One, which has been filled with NPCs with blocky heads looking reminiscent of PS1 and PS2 games, and graphics appearing to look anything but smooth. Adding to a lot of player frustration is the fact that CD Projekt Red apparently knew of these problems and released the game anyway. IGN even gave the PS4 and Xbox One version of Cyberpunk 2077 a 4.0/10 due to the rampant issues last-gen consoles are having. Check out some of the images below.

Updates are coming to fix these graphical issues, along with fixes to the many bugs and glitches present in the game already. However, some of these patches won’t arrive until January or February, which is a long time to wait – especially for those who own the game and want to play it.

Thankfully, PC and next-gen console users are reporting much less graphical issues (although all versions of the game contain plenty of bugs). Right now, the best way to play Cyberpunk 2077 is on PC, but for PS4 and Xbox One users who don’t have that option, the only immediate solution is to play the game, problems and all. Check out how that looks in this tweet from @MichaelDoesLife on Twiter below:

Some Twitter users, like Paul Tassi, have shared side-by-side comparisons of Cyberpunk 2077, which show just how terrible the PS4 version looks beside the game on PC. Instead of blocky, potato-faced NPCs, these show characters who look much more “last-gen” than their PC counterparts. Screenshots like this just illustrate the many problems the game has had on consoles, and it’s probably why Cyberpunk 2077 should’ve been delayed again.

The fact that CD Projekt Red was hiding these problems from the public only makes matter worse. It’s unclear what the company’s future plans are for the game’s planned multiplayer and DLC, beyond the recently announced patches. For now, it looks like both the studio and Cyberpunk 2077 will have some major hurdles to cross in order to bring some goodwill back to fans. One thing is certainly clear: it’s been a tough week for the studio, the game, and its players.
