How Bravely Default 2’s Boat Exploration Makes Grinding Easier

Although it’s only been out for a few days, Bravely Default 2 is already causing a bit of a controversy in the way it handles leveling up and increasing job ranks. Some fans and reviewers have complained the JRPG is too grindy or difficult. However, using the game’s Boat Exploration feature can make grinding (and leveling up) significantly easier.

Before the game even released, some early reviews of Bravely Default 2 complained of the difficulty level and grindiness associated with the game. Since then, enough players have also complained of this aspect of the game that it’s become a bit of a controversy for Bravely Default 2. No matter how people feel about this part of the game, though, using the Boat Exploration feature can make leveling up and increasing job ranks much easier.

Players will unlock Bravely Default 2‘s Boat Exploration early on in the game. The mechanic is pretty simple, but extremely useful. In each town, players can find and speak with an old lady to borrow her boat. The game needs to be left running (and connected online), but the Switch can be slept. The characters will gather treasures from their voyage while the game isn’t being played, so whenever players return, they’ll usually find treasures waiting for them. Because some voyages can take up to 12 hours to complete, it’s best to use this feature while away from Bravely Default 2 for longer stretches of time – like when a player is sleeping, for example.

Bravely Default 2’s Boat Exploration Makes Leveling Up Faster

Common treasures found while voyaging include EXP Orbs and JP (Job Points) Orbs. These orbs can be used to increase a character’s level or job rank. Various sizes of orbs mean various degrees of EXP and JP gains, with bigger orbs being worth larger amounts. However, it’s a great way to level up characters and increase their job classes without having to really do anything. Players can start Boat Exploration before going to bed and wake up the next morning to find their characters have discovered a lot of great items.

Ranking up job class in Bravely Default 2 is key to progressing through the game, and JP Orbs can significantly reduce the amount of time players may have to spend grinding levels through battles. Best of all, Boat Exploration can be done while players are away from the game, which means it’s a high rewards system for very little effort.

Overall, the Boat Exploration feature is one of the best new aspects of Bravely Default 2. For anyone worried that the game may be too difficult or grindy, setting out on voyages is an effective and easy way to continue leveling up and increasing job classes without really having to do anything, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
