Charlie Cox breaks his silence on how he reacted to Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Daredevil scene leaking ahead of the film’s release. The 39-year-old actor first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Netflix’s Daredevil as the blind lawyer Matt Murdock who masquerades as the titular masked vigilante fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen, including Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and the supervillain organization The Hand. Cox’s Murdock would carry over into the miniseries The Defenders in which he and fellow Netflix MCU heroes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist clash with The Hand.

Following Daredevil‘s cancellation with Marvel Television being folded into Marvel Studios, Cox’s future as the hero was left unknown, especially as Netflix’s various shows kept their MCU connections largely to a minimum. Rumors would begin swirling for Cox to return in Spider-Man: No Way Home as he was reported to be seen on set in his Murdock outfit, though he and the film’s co-stars would attempt to downplay the reports in the lead up to the film’s release. A series of leaks would seemingly confirm Cox’s return for the webslinging threequel and now the actor is opening up about the situation.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Charlie Cox recently caught up with ComicBook.com to discuss his crime show Kin and his MCU return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. When asked about his Daredevil scene leaking ahead of the film’s release, Cox revealed he was surprised to see the screen grab while in the midst of a variety of interviews. See what Cox shared below:

“I come sometimes, I walk into interviews like this and I’m blissfully unaware that there’s probably a whole conversation about something that I’ve never even… I do know that there was, before the movie came out, before Spider-Man came out, there was a screen grab going around of the scene that is in the movie. Someone sent it to me and I was like, oh wow, that’s it. That is that scene.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home became one of the most talked-about installments in the MCU for over a year as various rumors and leaks spoiled everything from Cox’s Daredevil return to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield donning their Spidey sets again. Cox, Garfield and Tom Holland frequently made headlines for their efforts to put a lid on the leaks, lying their way through multiple interviews about their appearances, which Maguire was able to avoid as he didn’t partake in any interviews prior to the film’s release. Though Garfield has expressed having enjoyed the lying to a degree, Cox has previously opened up about considering it a nightmare having to keep his return a secret and was worried any possible discussions could ruin his MCU future.

Despite the large wave of anticipation for Cox’s Daredevil return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences were apparently not as taken by his scene as that of Garfield and Maguire. Cox recently revealed he snuck into a theater to watch the film with audiences, with the theater going “dead f—-ng quiet” upon his arrival on screen. With Cox confirming there’s more to come from Daredevil in the MCU, one can hope there’s further anticipation for his continued involvement in the franchise than his recent return.
