At The Game Awards 2021, Chivalry 2 showcased their most recent Chivmas update and premiered exciting content coming in early 2022. A new objective mode, location, weapon, and armor are included in the release. Until then, knights get to remain occupied with Chivmas’ goodies.

Chivalry 2’s Merry Chivmas (2.3) update went officially live to all players on December 6. In anticipation of the holiday season, the dev team gave out “presents:” a new bow weapon, throwable items, decorations, wearable cosmetics, and multiple pre-existing objective modes added to more maps. As viewers saw during the Games Awards ceremony, however, the intent of the 2.3 update reaches past the holiday season and into the start of the new year.

Torn Banner Studios are looking to expand the game, and, given the game’s early success, this expansion will continue its growth; Chivalry 2 passed one million copies sold in the first two months of release. After Chivmas – probably mid-to-late January – “House Aberfell” releases, and it’s bringing a variety of new changes to the game. Those changes to Chivalry 2 include a new map, objective mode, and armors & weapons. Players can expect it to function similarly to the House Galencourt update in August 2021.

Chivalry 2’s House Aberfell Changes

House Aberfell will bring a brand-new map and location to Chivalry 2. While the current maps represent medieval England’s more Chistedom southern regions – evident from the crosses, cathedrals, and churches – Aberfell is in the northern parts of the isle, where Paganism had a greater cultural significance. The premiere trailer at The Game Awards 2021 shows Mason Order soldiers wearing traditional pagan headgear and attire, battling around Stonehenge-like rocks, which means players get to experience Chivalry 2‘s first-person melee combat through a new lens.

In addition to the location, a new objective game mode is making its way into the mix. Although the Chivalry 2 Game Awards trailer didn’t mention an official name, the objective was clear: capture peasants and livestock. From the little information given in the trailer, evidence points toward an experience similar to CTF (Capture The Flag). One clip shows an Agatha knight carrying a pig and peasant on their shoulder, which looks like a transporting element to the game mode. Players have asked for a CTF-like objective for some time now, and they’re finally getting it.

Chivalry 2’s last confirmed House Aberfell change is a new weapon. In a Scottish fashion, the “Highland Sword” looks similar to Braveheart’s weapon, insinuating it’ll join the greatsword weapon type. Although the Highland Sword won’t function as a new weapon type, its integration and different skins will make it feel fresh. At this stage, new armor sets aren’t a confirmed addition to the expansion; however, the Chivalry 2 Game Awards trailer suggests those are probably coming too.
