The final episode of Dragon Ball Super teases how the franchise’s first two female Super Saiyans, Caulifla and Kale, will once again shatter their limits when they return for the next anime. During the setup for Dragon Ball Super‘s Tournament of Power arc, Cabba’s search for fighters for his Universe 6 team led him to a pair of female of Saiyan warriors, Caulifla and Kale. Caulifla was depicted as arrogant, ambitious, and eager for a challenge, while the timid and shy Kale unknowingly hid the power of a Legendary Super Saiyan.

After joining Cabba’s team, Caulifla and Kale become major players in the Tournament of Power, with most of their fights being against Goku. With help from Cabba, they were able to find their own ways to become Super Saiyans. After entering the tournament, they quickly discovered that this transformation was far from the limit of what a Saiyan can do. Goku’s various forms – particularly his Super Saiyan Blue transformation – visibly impressed the two Saiyans. Though neither character was powerful enough to beat Goku, their fights with him caused them to grow stronger over a short of period of time. After fusing, they became Kefla, who was so strong that Goku had to go Ultra Instinct to win.

Clearly, Caulifla and Kale aren’t on Goku’s level yet, unless they fuse, but they could continue to climb higher. After Caulifla goes Super Saiyan 2, Goku shows off his Super Saiyan 3 form, and explains that this is what she should aim for next. Apparently, Caulifla took this advice to heart, because in the final episode of the series, Caulifla quickly mentions that she and Kale are going to train until they hit Super Saiyan 3. This brief reference could be an indication of how they’ll be more powerful when they return. In the next anime, Caulifla and Kale may have already attained this upgrade, or may at least have the power necessary to access it for the first time.

Based on what the two are able to do in Dragon Ball Super, it’s not hard to believe that they could reach this level in such a short time. After becoming a Super Saiyan in the Frieza Saga, it took several years for Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan 3 against Majin Buu, but Caulifla and Kale are able to improve at an alarmingly fast pace. The Tournament of Power, after all, only lasted 48 minutes.

Caulifla broke a Dragon Ball record when she temporarily reached the Super Saiyan 2 form within minutes of becoming a Super Saiyan. Gohan was able to go from Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan 2 in a matter of days, which was impressive on its own. But what Caulifla does, though, is a remarkable feat that hasn’t been achieved by Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, or Trunks. As for Kale, once she was able to gain control over her Legendary Super Saiyan form, she was able to fight on par with Caulifla against Goku without going berserk.

As both Caulifa and Kale have become popular characters, their defeat at the hands of Goku may not be the last bit of action Caulifla and Kale get to experience in the world of Dragon Ball. When a new installment in the franchise is released and a new story is told, Caulifla and Kale may be along for the ride – potentially with the Super Saiyan 3 upgrade.
