In a recent interview, Euphoria star, Eric Dane, becomes candid on how the series shot his nude scene in the most reason episode of the highly anticipated second season. After debuting in June 2019, the teen drama received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike, complimenting the series’ raw approach to the mature subject matter, strong performances from each member of the ensemble cast, as well as the cinematography, soundtrack, and writing. Euphoria season 2 is currently airing, after premiering on January 9, with new episodes every Sunday.

Helmed by filmmaker, Sam Levinson, Euphoria chronicles the lives of several high school students as they attempt to navigate their lives whilst dealing with difficult topics, such as drugs, sex, love, mental illness, and identity. Joining Dane within the star-studded cast are Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexia Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, Javon Walton, Austin Abrams, and Dominic Fike. In the latest episode of the season, Dane’s character, Cal Jacobs, almost completely unravels after reminiscing about his lost chance to spend his life with the man he loves, urinating over his own house and reprimanding his family as he comes out to them, requiring a prosthetic penis for a full-frontal moment.

In an interview with ET, Dane detailed the behind-the-scenes features of the prosthetic that he wore during the filming of the infamous Euphoria full-frontal scene. Apparently, the prosthetic itself was rigged with clamps and rigs, requiring the actor to clamp it down before tucking it away before pulling it out for the scene, adding to the absurdity of such a moment. Furthermore, Dane explained that Levinson and the rest of his castmates were extremely supportive during the filming of such a possibly awkward scene. Throughout the remainder of the interview, the star recaps his character’s meltdown and teases what fans can expect from him moving forward. Read Dane’s comments on his awkward prosthetic below:

You have got to really be careful with that thing and make sure you clamp it down before you tuck it away. Sam and the cast were super supportive.

Whilst such raw moments are an aspect that some greatly appreciate from the teen drama series, many have also expressed their uncomfortableness towards Euphoria’s almost amount of sex scenes and, sometimes, unnecessary scenes of nudity. Specifically, many critics have noticed these elements in the show’s second season, with many reporting on them almost taking away from the show’s telling of more serious issues. Even one of the show’s own, Sydney Sweeney, has admitted that she thought her character had too many unnecessary topless scenes, leading her to speak with Levinson herself on making changes.

With Dane’s comments, the inconvenient and even awkward elements of filming such nude scenes are still prevalent in today’s industry, prosthetics or not. However, it is also comforting to audiences, and even performers wishing to enter the industry, that castmates can be, and should be, very supportive, hopefully allowing the experience to become even that little bit less awkward. With the inclusion of such equipment, it is no doubt that Euphoria‘s second season will continue to shock audiences with its tough subjects once the series continues on February 6.
