All of the Eternals are among the most powerful characters in the MCU, but some of them would fare better than others if they were to have a one-on-one fight with Thanos. As the big bad of the entire Infinity Saga, Thanos needed to be physically more powerful than all of the Avengers. On top of that, the full Infinity Gauntlet made him almost invincible, but even the Mad Titan has his limits.

Thanos was able to execute his plan to gather all six Infinity Stones and snap away half of all life in the universe partly because other powerful MCU characters like Odin, Ego, and the Ancient One were no longer there to stop him. If, for example, Ego had succeeded in spreading himself to other planets, it’s safe to say that a Gauntlet-less Thanos wouldn’t have had a chance. The same can be said of the Celestials, but since they willingly stayed away from battle for so long, it’s unlikely Thanos would have ever met them.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Eternals were in a similar situation, ordered by the Celestials not to intervene in Earthly matters. But what if the Eternals had fought Thanos? Without counting Harry Styles’ Eros aka Starfox, whose MCU abilities haven’t been revealed yet, this is how each Eternal’s power compares to that of the Mad Titan.

Ajak

Salma Hayek’s Ajak is a crucial member of the Eternals, but not exactly because of her physical prowess. Ajak is both the group’s leader and their healer. She kept the group together for hundreds of years and directly communicated with the Celestials through Arishem. Unfortunately, Ajak couldn’t do much against Ikaris when he betrayed her, nor could she defend herself from the Deviants for long. In a fight against Thanos, Ajak’s healing abilities would help her overcome some injuries for a few seconds before he annihilates her.

Sprite

The physical appearance of Lia McHugh’s Sprite leads people to underestimate her. However, her ability to cast illusions has proved to be extremely useful, even against a group of Deviants, as evidenced in the first battle sequence of Eternals. In fact, Sprite’s illusion-casting powers equate her to Loki, whose deceitful abilities have allowed him to trick powerful characters such as Malekith, Thor, and the Avengers. Sadly for Sprite, the opening sequence of Avengers: Infinity War showed just how smart Thanos is, as he knew that Loki was in possession of the Tesseract and that he was about to stab him with a hidden dagger. If Thanos could do the unthinkable and kill Loki for good, he would likely see through Sprite’s illusions fairly quickly, leaving her completely vulnerable.

Kingo

Although Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo didn’t care much for humanity, he made it very clear that he’s the soul of the Eternals, at least when it comes to keeping the team’s spirits up with his attitude of a kid in a grown man’s body. Accordingly, Kingo’s Eternal powers are taken straight out of any child’s dreams, as he can shoot powerful bolts of energy from his hands. But even though Kingo’s finger guns are capable of stunning the Deviants, they aren’t strong enough to do any meaningful harm to them, even after charging his energy for a few seconds. Perhaps Kingo could defeat Thanos with the help of one or two of his fellow Eternals, but it’s unlikely he could do more if he fought Thanos by himself.

Thena

To the surprise of many, Angelina Jolie’s Thena found herself in trouble in Eternals, despite her fame as the most skilled fighter on the team. This was mostly due to her struggles with the dementia-like Mahd Wy’ry disease, which took a toll on her mind and body after thousands of years of existence. In her prime, Thena could have measured up to Thanos on a one-on-one battle, with the only questions being the durability of her weapons and the extent of her endurance. But if Thena needed to fight Thanos in the present day, she would likely succumb to a Mahd Wy’ry episode before she could pierce Thanos’ nearly-impenetrable skin.

Phastos

The abilities of Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos are not exactly offensive by nature. Phastos is an inventor more than a fighter, but if he wanted to, he could create the most dangerous weapons the world has ever seen. In the final battle of Eternals, the tech-savvy Phastos was able to hold Ikaris back with his gadgets. Neutralizing a Superman-like character with technology is a feat that only someone like Batman has the privilege of boasting. Yet, Phastos achieves it on the fly. If Phastos were to go all out on Thanos, he could create the necessary weapons to take him down by himself. Of course, he would need to defend himself from the Mad Titan first, which is a really hard thing to do considering Thanos is a Titanian who may or may not wield an Uru sword and at least one Infinity Stone.

Makkari

Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari is the definitive speedster in the MCU. Created by the Celestials, Makkari is the fastest MCU character introduced so far. Eternals showed that she’s able to traverse vast distances in a matter of seconds, and that her speed allows her to create sonic booms. Makkari would give Thanos a really tough time, and with enough persistence, she could wear him down until she’s able to pummel him to submission. However, it’s helpful to remember that speedsters are oddly neglected in the MCU, if Quicksilver’s death in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ralph Bohner’s fakeout in WandaVision are anything to go by. In theory, a speedster as powerful as Makkari would be close to invincible, but if Thanos could somehow get a hold of her, he could incapacitate her by brute force, similar to how he defeated the Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War.

Sersi

At first, matter transmutation may not sound like the most dangerous of abilities, but in the hands of somebody like Gemma Chan’s Sersi, it becomes one of the greatest superpowers in the MCU. Transforming any material into another would allow Sersi to defeat any opponent instantly. Just turning her enemy’s heart into stone or their blood into water would end the battle in Sersi’s favor, but that’s why Eternals had to come up with a limitation: Sersi can only transform objects, not living beings. However, Sersi found out that she could manipulate the body of a Deviant halfway through Eternals, and she used this newfound ability to freeze the rising Celestial Tiamut in thefinal battle. If she’s able to do the same to Thanos, she could defeat the Mad Titan in a matter of seconds. If not, she could use her surroundings to hold him off, although not for long.

Gilgamesh

There’s no denying Don Lee’s Gilgamesh is among the strongest MCU characters introduced so far. Gilgamesh is so strong that he could swat enhanced Deviants like they were bugs. Unfortunately, he found himself overwhelmed in the Amazon when Kro and his fellow Deviants ambushed the Eternals, leading to his death. In a one-on-one fight against Thanos, Gilgamesh would probably fare much better, as he would be able to show his full strength for the first time. He could make Thanos bleed more than Iron Man did in Avengers: Infinity War, and from a defense standpoint, it’s possible that Gilgamesh could receive more than one hit from Thanos without blinking an eye, just like Captain Marvel in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame.

Ikaris

Perhaps not surprisingly, Richard Madden’s Ikaris takes the prize as the one Eternal who could beat Thanos in a fight rather easily. Ikaris struggled to battle his siblings at the end of Eternals only because he was reluctant to fight them, and even then, he ultimately decided to do justice to his name and fly into the sun. With his ability to fly, his optical energy blasts, and his incredible strength, Ikaris would give Thanos the beatdown of his life. Here’s where the Infinity Stones would finally make the battle a fair one, as they would let Thanos fight Ikaris similarly to how he fought Iron Man in Avengers: Infinity War. The moment Ikaris takes to the skies, Thanos would need to resort to the Space Stone, the Reality Stone or the Power Stone. After a destructive battle that could easily obliterate the planet they’re standing on, Ikaris would likely defeat Thanos anyway.

Druig

One Eternal who could end the battle against Thanos before it even had the chance to start would be Barry Keoghan’s Druig. Druig may not be the strongest Eternal, and he may not have the most ostentatious abilities, but he does have the most dangerous superpower of the MCU. Mind control, which he shares with Loki‘s Sylvie, allows Druig to do anything he wants with the people he manipulates. Unlike Sylvie, Druig can enchant countless people remotely, and he can do it indefinitely. Fighting Thanos by himself, Druig could execute the Avengers’ failed plan to knock Thanos off his senses and steal the Infinity Gauntlet from him. In fact, he could ostensibly defeat the Mad Titan in any number of ways with his powers, such as forcing him to beat himself to death or enslaving him forever. In short, out of all the EternalsDruig could have become Thanos’ nightmare.
