When Genshin Impact released last year, the game featured multiplayer aspects but its main story and exploration felt decidedly single-player. Now, thanks to some recent updates – and even more on the horizon – the co-op features in Genshin Impact just keep getting better.

Even early on, the backbone of Genshin Impact‘s co-op was present. When it released on PC, mobile, and PlayStation 4 in 2020, Genshin Impact supported crossplay. Even though these features were locked behind Adventure Rank 16, meaning it took some time to unlock multiplayer, the ability to play the game with friends across all available platforms was a nice incentive to get more people into the free-to-play RPG. Now, with a PS5 version released and a Nintendo Switch port presumably still on its way, crossplay is even more integral to the game’s success.

Co-op in Genshin Impact can work in various ways, but the main feature for playing with friends is still being allowed to run Domains together and explore the overworld as a party. Domains can be tricky to take on solo, especially if a player’s team is missing some of Genshin Impact‘s most powerful characters, so pairing up with others can be key for clearing a Domain successfully. However, thanks to some recent updates, the co-op features in Genshin Impact keep on improving.

How Genshin Impact’s Co-Op Keeps Evolving (For The Better)

A new event for Version 1.5 of the game, called Windtrace, is adding PvP-style elements to Genshin Impact and is set to arrive on May 14. This will build off of other recent events like Contending Tides and will allow players to compete in a hide-and-seek type of game. It’s also offering fans who may be tired of running Domains a different way to enjoy multiplayer.

The 1.5 update for Genshin Impact most notably added a housing system, allowing players to build a home in one of three realms. With this new feature comes farming and gathering mechanics, as well as crafting home decorations. Thankfully, players can visit others’ homes and even help them in their gathering endeavors. By allowing players to tackle these new life simulator-like features together, it both keeps the game from feeling too lonely and encourages users to spend more time in Genshin Impact.

While fighting off enemies together as a group can be fun, sometimes it’s nice to just hang out in a game with friends. The new housing system is a great way the co-op in Genshin Impact has been improved, and newer updates for the game should continue changing the way its multiplayer aspects work.
