How I Met Your Mother‘s Barney Stinson is a womanizer with commitment issues, so it was a real treat seeing him falling in love with Quinn in season 7. She works as a stripper in Lusty Leopard, where her nickname is Karma. Of all the women Barney has hooked up with, Quinn remains one of our favorites.

Barney was so smitten with Quinn, he asked her to marry him. He really thought he found his match in her. Unfortunately, his decision was rushed and the two ultimately break up in season 8. Rushing things with Quinn is undoubtedly one of his biggest mistakes, but it’s also one of the things that made Barney grow the most out of the five main characters. For a while, he also dated Robin and almost married her too, but when it comes to compatibility, Quinn takes the cake.

10 “Before We Go, I Should Mention My Condition – It’s Called I’m Not A Gullible Dumb A** Disorder.”

Quinn is first introduced to the story in “The Drunk Train”, when Ted asks Barney to be his wingman while he tries to hook up with a girl in a club. Barney reluctantly agrees to go and gets stuck talking to Quinn, a beautiful blonde who won’t fall for any of his tricks.

At first, Quinn played along with him, but only so she could call him out at the end. This instantly sparked Barney’s interest.

9 “The Manager Is Giving Me The Stink Eye.”

It isn’t long until Barney recognizes Quinn at his favorite strip club where she works under the name of Karma. In order to coax money out of him, she pretends she is interested in him. He pays for countless minutes just to keep talking to her, not being aware that he is being played by her.

Barney has made an art out of tricking women into sleeping with him. Quinn did to him what he has done to countless women: he tricked him into spending time with her so she could get what she wants. It’s no coincidence her stage name is Karma.

8 “You Can’t Pretend To Be Some Hurt Little Victim With Me – I Know You.”

It isn’t long until Barney realizes that Karma used him for his money and didn’t actually like him as much as he liked her. The two keep running into each other, though. When he finds himself standing behind her in a queue, Barney confronts Quinn and tells her that he had meant it when he asked her out. He accuses her of conning him, to which she replies: “You can’t pretend to be some hurt little victim with me – I know you.”

Unlike most women, Quinn instantly sees through Barney, which is definitely an indication that she was the right girl for Barney. She also got him a coffee and the two finally had a date.

7 “When I Moved In Here, I Sold All My Stuff.”

The happy couple moved in together surprisingly fast, especially when we consider how much they both love their independence and freedom. Unlike other girls, she wasn’t bothered by his man-cave-like apartment at all. She even told him that she sold almost all her stuff so he wouldn’t feel suffocated.

The fact that Quinn told him that shows that she understands that Barney has some serious commitment issues and gives him a lot of space to get used to being in a serious relationship.

6 “A Guy Has To Be The First One To Let It Rip.”

After Barney accidentally farts in front of Quinn, she welcomes it with relief and enthusiasm. Rather than being awkward about it, she laughs and hugs him, telling him that she is happy because it’s the guy who has to do it first.

Barney is not used to this level of intimacy, but thanks to Quinn’s positive outlook, he doesn’t struggle too much in the process of getting used to it. Right afterwards, Quinn farts as well. Barney is a little bit reserved: this is a new territory for him, but he doesn’t stop hugging her in the process.

5 “Just Keep Smashing Mugs.”

To show her that he is committed to her, Barney comes home and starts smashing his mugs to make room for hers. Since he doesn’t even know his own mugs, he accidentally breaks one of hers. She doesn’t get upset, though. As always, Quinn is grinning with amusement, enjoying the show his boyfriend is putting on for her.

She reassures him by telling him to keep smashing mugs. This quote shows that the two are very similar when it comes to processing deep and complex emotions. Rather than telling him that the smashing of mugs makes no sense, she sees a very profound message in this silly act: that he wants to share his life (including his flat) with her.

4 “Do You Trust Me?”

The attitude towards women is the single most obvious thing about Barney that simply wouldn’t fly today. When he first meets Quinn, he starts viewing women differently, but it isn’t long until he returns to his old ways. This is the most obvious when he wants Quinn to sign a pre-nup, filled with misogynistic expectations he has of his future wife. As always, Quinn sees right through his shenanigans and asks him straight-forward: “Do you trust me?”

Barney’s answer is “no” and it turns out that she doesn’t trust Barney either. As a result, the two broke up. Barney is very bad at communicating honestly and directly, so it is a real shame he broke up with the woman who was capable of having a transparent and sincere conversation with him.

3 “I Just Worship Chaos.”

One of the things that Barney loved the most about Quinn was the fact that she also loved to prank people and was just as good at it as he was. When she comes up with the so-called “evil plan”, the endgame of which was meeting Barney’s friends, he couldn’t be more thrilled about dating her. She also suggests that the two should make Ted and Robin fight over her apartment. Why? Simply because she loves chaos – and Barney loves her for it.

The elaborate plan to mess with the group’s heads worked wonders. The evil plan solidified their relationship and proved that they make for a great team.

2 “Dude, I Don’t Want To Work For A Bank Because I Have Standards.”

Rather than feeling ashamed about her job, Quinn takes great pride in it. She tells Barney that unlike him, she has standards. Barney works a typical corporate job at a bank, and one of the running jokes in the series is that no one really knows what he does, but he is the richest of them all.

Her refusal to work for a bank shows that this is a girl who thinks with her own head. While a lot of girls would be impressed with Barney’s fortune and possibly only fall for him because he is so rich, Quinn likes him because of his personality and intelligence.

1 “In The Event Of Divorce, Miss Garvey Shall Get Full Custody Of Mr. Stinson’s Suits.”

After Barney gives Quinn the ridiculous prenup, including pillow fights with other girls and weight requirements, Quinn comes up with some suggestions of her own. One of them reads: “In the event of divorce, Miss Garvey shall get full custody of Mr. Stinson’s suits.”

Barney is appalled and visibly hurt. Quinn knew how to strike where it hurt him the most and she never took advantage of it. Only when Barney let her down with his stupid expectations did she pounce back, but mostly just to prove the point. She loved playing games, but unlike Barney, she also knew when to stop. It’s a real shame they went their separate ways because it turned out that Quinn was the best girlfriend Barney could wish for.
