Because season 9 of How I Met Your Mother took place entirely over the span of three days, season 8 was the last traditional season of the show. And what a season it was! From Ted rekindling his relationship with Victoria to Lily and Marshall adapting to their new lives as parents, each episode had something new and exciting to offer the audiences. In many ways, and in the eyes of many fans, it was the last incredible season the show had to offer, even if it paled in comparison with earlier episodes.

Obviously, the most exciting part of the whole thing was the development of Barney and Robin’s relationship. At this point, due to the flashforwards employed in the previous season, audiences already knew they were going to get married. However, witnessing the process was truly something else. If you’re feeling nostalgic, then this is the perfect time to take a little walk down memory lane and revisit the best moments of How I Met Your Mother’s eighth season.

10 The Fortress (8.0)

By the time “The Fortress” rolled around, the season was almost over. Barney and Robin were already engaged, with their wedding only a few weeks away. But they still don’t agree over where to live, prompting Barney to want to give his apartment to someone who is worthy of it and the memories attached to it.

Meantime, Marshall and Lily begin disagreeing over the fact she hasn’t spent too much time with her family due to her new job with the Captain.

9 The Over-Correction (8.1)

Back in episode ten, Robin was dying of jealousy over the fact that Barney seemed to have found bliss and happiness with his new girlfriend, who Robin just happens to hate as it is. In order to get revenge, she breaks into his apartment to steal his Playbook, and when he burns it, the gang can’t believe it.

And in the meantime, Marshall catches his mom having sex with Lily’s dad, which leads to a very awkward family situation. Ted sets off to get back everything the group borrowed and didn’t return over the years.

8 Weekend At Barney’s (8.1)

Ted is desperate to find someone he can take to Barney and Robin’s wedding and decides to take a crazy girl no one likes. In order to help him out, Barney stages plays from his Playbook, revealing in the process that he had actually burnt a fake one that time in his apartment. What consequences could this have for his relationship?

On another plotline, Marshall deeply embarrasses Lily at an important work event, testing the ability he thought he had to be the perfect husband.

7 P.S. I Love You (8.2)

Robin Sparkles simply had to make s final appearance on the show, both for the sake of the character and for the sake of the fans who were so quick to fall in love with her and her music.

In this episode, Barney finds an old documentary about Robin and her alter-ego, which depicts her obsessions with a Candian celebrity she refuses to name. Will everyone get to find out in the end?

6 The Time Travelers (8.3)

At this point in the series, Ted is feeling at an all-time low. Marshall and Lily are busy with their lives as parents and a married couple, and Barney and Robin are planning their wedding and future together.

When Barney invites him to Robots vs Wrestlers and Ted refuses, they are visited by future versions of themselves, prompting Ted to realize the real reason why he was visited in the first place.

5 The Final Page: Part One (8.6)

“The Final Page: Part One” introduces the audience to the individual people that each member of the gang would throw in a pit forever so they wouldn’t have to see them again.

For Ted, that’s an old architecture professor, for Robin, it’s Patrice, and for Marshall and Lily, it’s an old colleague. While Barney is cursed with a jinx, they each have to decide whether or not they should confront these people.

4 Farhampton (8.6)

“Farhampton” marked the first episode of the season and saw Ted and Victoria after she escaped from her wedding to be with him. However, this leads to quite an unexpected trip!

In the meantime, Quinn finds out about Robin and Barney’s past, effectively putting their relationship at risk. Not to worry, though, because Robin seems to be doing pretty well in the love-life department.

3 The Bro Mitzvah (8.7)

Barney Stinson’s bachelor party could never be anything short of extraordinary, right? Well, when Marshall and Ted kidnap him and the party begins, Barney has a feeling his friends might not know him at all.

And now that Barney isn’t in the picture, Robin has to have dinner alone with his mother Loretta. None of them is looking forward to it much, but who knew they could actually bond?

2 Something New (8.8)

The end of the season finally arrives, and each part of the gang has something going on. Barney and Robin getting their kicks out of ruining an annoying couple’s night, Marshall and Lily’s plans to move to Italy might not materialize at all and, perhaps most shocking of all, it is revealed that Ted will be moving to Chicago. Talk about an emotional season finale!

1 The Final Page: Part Two (9.4)

There’s one reason, and one reason only as to why this episode remains not only the best of season seven but one of the best out of the entirety of How I Met Your Mother.

And that’s because audiences finally got to see Barney and Robin make their way back to each other and get engaged. Ted finally lets go of his love for her, and the two embark on a journey towards their happy life together. Kind of…
