On Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kanye West encouraged Kim Kardashian to cover up, but he’s had a change of heart when it comes to Julia Fox. Of course, Kanye wasn’t always conservative. He entered his Sunday Service phase with a newfound passion for Christianity. With the turn toward religion came a desire for Kim to put away her racy outfits. The move already seemed hypocritical, as before then, Kanye was pivotal in terms of helping to style some of Kim’s most provocative looks.

The conflict first became apparent to KUWTK fans when Kim was preparing for the 2019 Met Gala. With the theme of camp fashion in mind, Thierry Mugler designed a dripping siren dress with an extra-cinched waist for Kim. The look was also supposed to feature nipple covers to exaggerate the cartoonish, Jessica Rabbit-meets-Miranda-Hobbes silhouette. Kanye nixed the covers, deeming them inappropriate. KUWTK alum Kim said he gave her anxiety, and the criticism wasn’t welcome so close to the event. The reality star said, “you built me up to be this sexy person,” and “just because you’re on a journey, and you’re on a transformation doesn’t mean that I’m in the same spot with you.” Kanye ended up walking out.

What followed seemed to be a period of compromise where Kim did start to cover up more. She told host Tamera Mowry-Housley on The Real, “he is my husband, and I want to honor him.” She went on to note that the changes were mainly about the kids. She also shared that Kanye wanted to be stricter about TVs in the kids’ rooms, makeup for North West, and imagery they might be exposed to. While Kanye has stuck to his guns on the makeup and social media usage for North, he hasn’t been as consistent when it comes to how women in his life should dress. Even Kim’s most recent posts of her covered Balenciaga era seem partially reflective of Kanye’s input.

In Julia and Kanye’s Interview Magazine date night debut, Julia sports a prominent G string thong above her black pants and a crop top. Kanye then proceeds to make out with Julia on the designer’s closet floor and against the wall. Last but not least, the couple posed against a car while Julia wore only a bra and gloves, and Kanye sported a black ski mask.  Ironically, Julia is a major KUWTK fan, so the hypocrisy was hopefully obvious to her. In many KUWTK fans’ hearts, a sexy photoshoot from time to time never hurt anyone. The most provocative image was undoubtedly Kanye straddling Julia with a knife and fork in hand. The decision to publish the salacious date night pictures stands in direct contrast to Kanye’s efforts to control Kim and what she wears.

Kanye also recently criticized Kris Jenner for supporting Kim’s nude Playboy shoot, calling it lousy parenting. While Kim’s been naked in many shoots, she’s never evoked the bondage and submission themes that Kanye and Julia have. If Kanye still aims to justify his actions through conservative Christianity, he might do a double-take in the mirror. Kanye might also want to ponder the patriarchal desire to control when and wear female sexuality is at play. Then again, if Kanye’s left his conservative Christian ways behind, the sexy photo shoots that built both Keeping Up With the Kardashiansand Kanye’s career may proliferate, without judgment.
