American Idol judge and pop superstar, Katy Perry, revealed how she has balanced being a mom and performing. Katy gave birth to Daisy Dove, her daughter with fiancé, Orlando Bloom, on August 26, 2020. Throughout her pregnancy and motherhood, Katy has been a judge on American Idol, a role that she began in 2018 when the show was revived on ABC. Katy is now about to begin her residency with her new show, PLAY, at The Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Being the mother to a one-year-old daughter and also a pop icon can be a tricky balance. Throughout her career, Katy has released six studio albums and has sold over 143 million records worldwide. She has been a supporting act and has headlined multiple tours. However, the Las Vegas residency will be more stable as Katy will not have to travel as much. Katy and Orlando own two homes, one in Montecito and one in Beverly Hills, California, so she won’t be too far from home when she is in Las Vegas. PLAY is scheduled to run for 16 dates beginning on December 29, 2021 and ending on March 19, 2022. It is described as a “larger than life show.” Fans can expect to hear Katy’s 20 highest performing songs on streaming services in the show.

In an interview with Extra, Katy said that now is the perfect time for PLAY, as she is balancing being a mom with being a performer. She shared, “I’m really enjoying a lot of the balance and stability doing a residency offers… I’m excited to drive my daughter to preschool and drop her off and have those morning, ‘Mommy’s gotta go and do a show, see you in the morning.'” Daisy will not be joining Katy in Las Vegas, so Katy said that she tells her, “Mommy’s going to Vegas but it’s, like, not that far away.” Unlike a world tour, the residency will only take Katy from her home in Beverly Hills to Las Vegas. Although she said that she will definitely go on a world tour eventually, she cherishes her time with Daisy now.

Katy also spoke about her desire to get back in the gym to prepare for the show, while also making time for Daisy saying, “Can everyone relate? I want to go, but there’s traffic. Well, no, there’s no traffic because it’s downstairs… But truly, it’s about balance. I want to spend every moment I have at home with my daughter or checking something off the list concerning PLAY … You know, girl, I’m 37, it’s been four years later, I’m on a show… Gotta get this old train up and running again.

Katy seems to have found the perfect balance between being a mom to Daisy and continuing to perform. This Las Vegas residency will offer some stability, but also give Katy a creative outlet and allow her to get back to doing something she loves. PLAY is sure to be another success on Katy’s long list of achievements.
