Actor Lance Reddick shares a story about how his John Wick co-star, Keanu Reeves, surprised him on his own birthday. Reddick plays Charon in the John Wick series, a concierge for The Continental Hotel, the assassin’s “safe zone” in the franchise. The actor has appeared in the last two films of the series and provided he survives John Wick: Chapter 4, will likely continue to show up as an ally of sorts to Reeves’ Wick (as well as occasional dog sitter for the un-retired assassin).

Reddick is best known for his work on the critically acclaimed HBO series, The Wire, as well as a host of other TV appearances, including HBO’s Oz, Law & Order,Lost, Fringe, and Quantum Break. He’s also appeared in a number of films, including Jonah Hex, Angel Has Fallen, and Old Boy. Reddick provided the voice for Alan Rails on Rick & Morty‘s “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender” episode and has done voice work for other animated shows and video games, including Duck Tales, Paradise PD, and Castlevania.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While filming John Wick: Chapter 4, Reddick shared a story with Uproxx about Reeves that lines up with prior tales about his character and generosity. Apparently, Reddick showed up for his first day on the sequel, which was also Reeves’ birthday. The star wasn’t in the scene that Reddick was shooting, but Reeves came to the set anyway, along with his girlfriend. She relayed to Reddick that when she asked Reeves what he’d like to do for his birthday, he said that he wanted to go see Lance, showing up with a thoughtful gift. Read what Reddick said below:

He’d never done this before but he wrote me a note thanking me for what I brought to the character in these movies. And he wanted to give the note to me. I’ll never forget it. I’m going to cry now.

Alongside the John Wick series, Reddick is also set to play Albert Wesker in Netflix’s Resident Evil series. The actor recently completed work on the Amazon series, Bosch, and is also providing the voice of Thomas Wayne in the Batman Unburied podcast series. Along with John Wick: Chapter 4, the actor will star in Danny DeVito’s St. Sebastian in 2022.

Reeves’ reputation as a caring, thoughtful, and generous soul is the stuff of legends, as there are multiple tales of it throughout his career. Co-star after co-star continue to tell stories of Reeves’ humble and magnanimous spirit, from Sandra Bullock to Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Will Smith and beyond, the tales of his goodness seem endless. Reeves is every bit as talented as he is nice, and his fanbase has grown exponentially throughout the last few years, as John Wick has solidified him as a household name, a trend that will surely continue once John Wick: Chapter 4 releases on May 27, 2022.
