Sucker Punch Production’s newest title Ghost of Tsushima boasts an expansive open world as well as an action-packed storyline, making for both a lengthy and rewarding gameplay experience. Stepping into the shoes of Tsushima’s last remaining samurai, Jin Sakai, players have an entire island at their disposal to explore and enjoy.

Like many open-world games of this nature, such as Assassin’s Creed or Horizon Zero Dawn, how long the game takes to play largely depends on how the player chooses to play the game. With such an expansive open world, there’s much to do and see. Players can complete a variety of side-quests or seek out collectibles in hidden nooks and crannies. Or, players can choose to stick primarily to the storyline.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

To complete just the main story of Ghost of Tsushima, players should expect it to take roughly 15-20 hours. But if players take their time discovering the scenic world or they want to seek out a 100% completion, then expect the playing time to more than double, as it takes between 40-50 hours to see everything there is to see in Ghost of Tsushima’s open world.

Ghost Of Tsushima’s Length Depends On How It’s Played

The difficulty setting will have an impact on the length of the game. The easier the setting, the more quickly Ghost of Tsushima players will be able to get past foes and complete the main story. With higher difficulty settings, players should expect to devote more time to finish the entire game. Ghost of Tsushima has three difficulty settings – easy, normal, and hard. While easy is described as providing only a small challenge, normal is recommended for players wanting a “well-rounded gameplay experience.” It goes without saying that hard is the toughest level and is only recommended for players who have mastered the art of action-adventure videos games beforehand.

Ghost of Tsushima is the largest game Sucker Punch Productions has developed to date, which speaks to how expansive the game’s open world is. Nate Fox, the creative director of Ghost of Tsushima, previously told Voxel that it was “difficult” to concretely answer how long the game takes to complete because of its open world environment. He admitted that some testers played it for over six hours a day only to not complete the main story because they were distracted by exploring the free-roam environment. However, Fox highly encouraged players to take their time exploring the beautiful island of Tsushima, even if it means they don’t complete the main story immediately.

Players should take their time while playing Ghost of Tsushima, given all the main story and open world environments have to offer, and in doing so, they should expect to be glued to their consoles for a good chunk of time.
