Zack Snyder’s Justice League has finally arrived after years of anticipation, and it’s viewable on HBO Max in either a single four-hour stretch, or broken up into small chapters. The Snyder Cut was initially planned to release as a multi-part miniseries, though those plans were later changed to make it a proper film. No official plans exist at the moment for more Snyder-directed DC films, but there’s plenty of new content for fans to see in the Snyder Cut.

At just over four hours long, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is one of the biggest superhero films ever produced, rivaling even Peter Jackson’s notorious extended editions of Lord of the Rings in length. A theatrical release of Snyder’s full cut would have been impossible given its scale, so it’s fortuitous that the film has landed on a more appropriate platform like HBO Max, where fans can pause, break, and watch the superhero saga unfold at their own pace.

To that end, the Justice League Snyder Cut has been broken up into six chapters and an epilogue, giving viewers some official guide to where the best stopping points may be. The chapters are titled, in order, “Don’t Count On It, Batman,” “The Age Of Heroes,” “Beloved Mother, Beloved Son,” “Change Machine,” “All The King’s Horses,” and “Something Darker.” The epilogue is entitled “A Father Twice Over.” The chapters help divide the film up into its key narrative arcs, such as the assembling of the Justice League, the flashbacks to Darkseid’s original attack on Earth, and the post-apocalyptic Knightmare sequence. For anyone hesitant to commit a solid four-hour block to the film, they should be quite helpful.

A lot of that new Snyder Cut content sets up sequel storylines that, sadly, may never see the light of day. Darkseid, for instance, remains mostly a looming threat in the new version of the film, rather than a central antagonist. The Knightmare would have carried over into Justice League 2 in a major way as well, with most of the follow-up film intended to take place in the post-apocalypse, according to Snyder himself.

At the very least, the expanded runtime of the Snyder Cut gives a lot more character development to the different members of the Justice League. Cyborg’s role in particular is massively expanded, and the other heroes get a lot more time to stretch and properly introduce themselves across the Snyder Cut’s six chapters. After years in the making, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hopefully give a satisfying sendoff to the old DCEU for diehard fans.
