How many episodes are in Halo season 1 and when does the season finale air? A long time ago, Microsoft and Bungie attempted to adapt Halo into a live-action movie, with filmmakers such as Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp even being involved. But then things fell by the wayside and no Hollywood studio wanted to touch the property for several years — that is, until Steven Spielberg came on board in 2013 to produce a live-action series.

Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment planned on developing a Halo TV show for Showtime, to release sometime in 2015 to coincide with the release of Halo 5: Guardians. Of course, things took longer than expected and the Halo TV series was finally scheduled to premiere in March 2022, a few months after Guardians‘ sequel, Halo Infinite, came out. Starring Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, the Halo TV show exists outside of the core canon in what 343 Industries has dubbed the Silver Timeline, featuring Silver Team instead of Blue Team.

How Many Episodes Are In Halo Season 1?

Developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane, the Halo TV show has nine episodes in season 1 rather than the initially planned 10 episodes, a standard number for most streaming releases nowadays. Halo is one of the many shows that was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s possible it could’ve premiered sometime in 2021, but the halt on filming in 2020 impacted plans, not to mention post-production on the first handful of episodes became problematic. Thankfully, Halo has already been renewed for season 2, which means Paramount+ isn’t wasting any time in getting another season going, potentially avoiding any COVID-related setbacks.

Halo Season 1 Finale Release Date

Halo premieres on March 24, 2022 on Paramount+ and will follow the streaming service’s standard rollout plan, releasing one episode per week instead of all at once or in batches, as other services like Hulu and HBO Max are known to do. That means the Halo season 1 finale releases on May 19, 2022, so long as Paramount+ releases new episodes without interruption.

If all goes according to plan and Halo ends up being a success for the streaming service, it’s not far-fetched to believe there could be several seasons of Halo. The first season is mostly focused on the mystery behind the Halo Array and finding the Sacred Ring, while season 2 onward may see the actual story of Combat Evolved and its related novels adapted more closely. Still, no matter how many seasons there are, the number of episodes in each Halo season will likely remain about the same, in the 9-10 range.
