How Mecha-Ghidorah Could Explain Godzilla Being GvK’s Villain

The presence of Mecha-King Ghidorah in Godzilla vs. Kong could explain why Gojira is being perceived as the movie’s villain. Ghidorah was obliterated by Godzilla in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but Jonah finding his severed head from the Mexico fight set up a return for the alien Titan. Based on new details regarding Godzilla vs. Kong, it’s looking like the MonsterVerse is about to bring the former alpha of the Titans back into the picture.

From the beginning, it was believed that if Godzilla’s archenemy did return, the MonsterVerse would draw inspiration from the 1991 film Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. In the movie, Ghidorah was killed, only to be revived as the cyborg monster, Mecha-King Ghidorah. That seems to be what the MonsterVerse could have planned for Godzilla vs. Kong. It does seem plausible, given that the inclusion of one mechanized Titan has already been spoiled. A toy leak revealed Mechagodzilla, and a blueprint on a monitor screen in the trailer may have been Godzilla vs. Kong’s first official tease to him. Mechagodzilla could be joined by Mecha-Ghidorah in the upcoming movie.

Evidence for Mech-Ghidorah stems from Collider’sGodzilla vs. Kong set visit. A report described a “gigantic Ghidorah skull that had been wired up and made technological”. It was also stated that what was seen on set indicated that Ghidorah’s head was being used to create a “mechanized creature”. This could mean that Godzilla has more than one just one ancient rival that he has to worry about. And not only would his reveal give Godzilla one extra enemy for him to fight, it might provide an explanation for his villainous behavior in the marketing for Godzilla vs. Kong.

Gojira Is Acting Like A Villain In Godzilla vs. Kong

In the trailer, Godzilla is shown actively pursuing Kong, thus leaving the impression that he’s the instigator of their conflict. Kyle Chandler’s Mark Russell can be heard saying that Godzilla “is out there hurting people and we don’t know why.” Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) acknowledges this as well, and remarks that something they don’t know about must be provoking to him. Furthermore, a map in the trailer plots out various locations on Earth that have been targeted and attacked by Godzilla. It appears that after becoming the new alpha, Godzilla has turned hostile against humanity for some reason. Him moving in this direction was actually teased at the end of King of the Monsters. When Dr. Stanton (Bradley Whitford) said he was glad Godzilla was on their side, Dr. Chen (Zhang Ziyi) grimly added, “for now”. The Godzilla vs Kong trailer has suggested that his unspoken alliance with humans has already ended.

APEX May Be Building Mecha-Ghidorah

The same map that tracked Godzilla’s attacks also featured a note that read, “Connection between Godzilla and APEX?” APEX is the name of a new group of villains who work with advanced technology. Since it’s already been confirmed that they work with cybernetics, they may be the best candidates to build Mecha-Ghidorah. The problem is that they may lack the most important component: Ghidorah’s head. The King of the Monsters post-credits scene saw it fall into the hands of Jonah (Charles Dance).

Considering that Godzilla vs. Kong’s villains have goals that are different to Jonah’s eco-terrorists, these have to be two different organizations. Regardless, much could have happened in the five years that passed between the two MonsterVerse movies. Somehow, they have acquired Ghidorah’s head from Jonah and are using their technology to restore him back to life. If they also obtained Monarch’s research from their experiments with building a “mechanized giant” and organic Titans, that could aid them in bringing Ghidorah back to life.

Godzilla Could Know About APEX’s Mecha-Ghidorah Plans

APEX building Mecha-Ghidorah would make sense of why Godzilla is going on the attack in the MonsterVerse; Godzilla would likely react aggressively if he knew what they were up to. After all, Ghidorah is a monster with whom he shares a history that dates back thousands of years. It wouldn’t be out-of-character at all for Godzilla to take measures to prevent Ghidorah’s return. And it may be that standing in the way of Ghidorah being resurrected is exactly what he’s trying to do in Godzilla vs. Kong. That possibility may have been hinted at with the note that mentioned a potential connection between Godzilla and APEXl; what links them together may be Mecha-Ghidorah.

If Godzilla can sense his old foe, he may be going after the ones trying to rebuild him. Godzilla’s hatred of Ghidorah could lead him into a frenzy against the humans associated with his impending resurrection. All things considered, taking down APEX could be Gojira’s real mission in Godzilla vs. Kong. It’s known from the map that APEX sites are being destroyed in the movie, but it wasn’t said who was behind these attacks. The mysterious perpetrators could be Rodan and King of the Monsters’ original Titans, as they could be doing the bidding of their alpha.

Godzilla & Kong May Team-Up Against Mecha-Ghidorah

There may be a secret reason for Godzilla’s attack on the aircraft carrier and Kong, as seen in the trailer. Godzilla’s attention seemed to be directed at Kong, but APEX could have been his true target. It’s possible that APEX had a presence in this scene, as it may be that Monarch may not be aware of what they’re attempting to do just yet and could be working with them. Partially due to this, it may be a while before the humans find out that Godzilla isn’t their biggest threat. It may take characters like Madison to investigate Godzilla’s actions and expose APEX’s secret activities. Until that happens, Godzilla may remain enemies with Kong and Monarch. Once the truth is uncovered, Monarch could shift their focus from Godzilla to APEX.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to get to the bottom of everything before Godzilla’s fight with Kong gets too far. If Kong can emerge as a potential ally against Mecha-Ghidorah, Godzilla might just be willing to put aside his differences with the ape to take down the movie’s real villain. What may make the team-up necessary is Mechagodzilla, who could serve as a second weapon of APEX’s. Godzilla is capable of beating Ghidorah, but he would need help for sure if was forced to fight both of them at once. Perhaps if the two titular Titans join forces, Mecha-King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla can be defeated at the end of Godzilla vs. Kong.
