MLB The Show 21 had a handful of enhancements and features exclusive to the newer consoles, and MLB The Show 22 will be no different, with the PlayStation 4 and PS5 versions having different features. Set to be released April 5, the latest installment in the baseball simulation will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 5 and Series X/S versions are priced at $69.99, $10 more than their last-generation counterparts, but the improvements are meant to be worth that small increase.

Before The Show 21, the previous 15 entries in the series were playable exclusively on PlayStation consoles. Making matters even better for Xbox players, The Show 21 came to Xbox Game Pass day one. Subscribers will once again be able to access the newest title on the service, and San Diego Studio has further expanded its reach with its first port on Nintendo Switch.

Players on the upgraded versions of MLB The Show 21 were treated to a targeted frame rate of 60 FPS. Additionally, the game boasted 4K visuals. The biggest difference between the last-generation and current-generation versions of The Show 21 was the inclusion of Stadium Creator. Using this mode, players had access to an extensive library of assets to bring some of their wildest imaginations to fruition. Some even used the mode to recreate classic ballparks in MLB The Show 21. The mode requires some pretty powerful hardware, which is why Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners were left out.

MLB The Show 22 On PS5 Has Stadium Creator & 60 FPS Gameplay

The latest installment of the MLB The Show franchise will, as expected, build on the foundations of the previous entry. For starters, Stadium Creator – which won’t be available on the PS4 version of the game – has been given a more streamlined interface to help players navigate it more easily, according to the MLB The Show website. Considering how well received the first iteration of the mode was, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more assets available to place in and around created ballparks. Last year’s game included things like dinosaurs and UFOs, so it will be interesting to see what else San Diego Studio has in store. Perhaps the biggest addition to MLB The Show‘s Stadium Creator, however, is the inclusion of night games at created parks. It was one of the community’s main issues with the creator. Currently, created parks in MLB The Show 21 are only able to host day games. The ability to play under the lights opens up a whole new creative avenue for players.

More performance improvements are also being advertised by the developer, which should be the main difference between MLB The Show 22 on PlayStation 4 and PS5. Although The Show 21 advertised 60 FPS with 4K performance, it wasn’t uncommon for the game to fall short of that target. Now that San Diego Studio has even more experience with the current console hardware, a reasonable expectation would be more consistency with that frame rate target on top of the new features MLB The Show 22 will introduce, especially since it’s a main advertised feature on the website. As with console generations in the past, studios will be able to better optimize games as time passes and they become more familiar with the power at their disposal.

MLB The Show 22 will release April 5 this year. Players who buy the Digital Deluxe Edition, Digital MVP Edition or Physical MVP Edition will get access to the game four days early. For the Physical MVP Edition, this also includes a SteelBook case with manga-inspired artwork of cover athlete Shohei Ohtani.
