How much does Jabba the Hutt weigh in the Star Wars franchise? Though the iconic Star Wars villain has been dead since the end of the original trilogy, The Book of Boba Fett has made the character relevant again. The legacy of the menacing crime lord has an important presence in the second Disney+ series, where his criminal empire is being controlled by Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison).

Jabba is a member of a species known for their massive, slug-like body structures. Based on what’s been established about them in other Star Wars material, most Hutts are heavily involved in organized crime, much like Jabba himself. Two more members of the Hutt species were officially introduced in The Book of Boba Fett episode 2, which saw the show’s title character cross paths with the Twins. Said to be the cousins of Jabba, the Twins are a male and female pair of Hutts looking to retake the villain’s lost territory from its new ruler. Curiously, the two Hutts were being carried by numerous servants on a single litter.

Two of these enormous creatures being paraded through the streets raises questions about how much members of their species actually weigh. According to the official Star Wars website, Jabba the Hutt weighed close to 3000 pounds, which is a whopping figure [via starwars.com]. His weight is significantly less than an elephant (5000 pounds or higher), but is comparable to some vehicles or a rhino, which can be in that range. According to the book titled Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, Hutts in the Star Wars universe have a growth cycle that takes them from less than a foot tall to the size of Jabba.

If the Twins are close to the same weight as their cousin, they could weigh a combined 6,000 pounds. What’s interesting about that is the fact that less than 20 servants were carrying the litter that supported the two massive Hutts. This observation has of course generated a lot of online jokes about the impressive strength of their servants, not to mention the remarkable sturdiness of the litter itself. Many have suggested that it simply shouldn’t be possible for the Twins’ servants to lift such a ridiculously heavy load, much less carry it for a prolonged period.

The mere inclusion of the Twins in the Book of Boba Fett promises to continue the franchise’s exploration of Jabba the Hutt’s character and the mark he left on Tatooine. The Twins being around and Boba Fett’s efforts to rebuild Jabba’s broken empire could lead to new details about the Hutts being added to Star Wars canon. Since the live-action movies haven’t really done much with them or their society as a whole outside of Jabba, The Book of Boba Fett has an opportunity to truly expand on Hutt lore in the Star Wars universe.
