The Netflix show Too Hot To Handle is unconventional, like much of the streaming platform’s content, and we’re about to explain which elements of the series are allegedly real or scripted. Too Hot To Handle is a reality show that follows the romantic lives of 10 singles who are looking to have some fun, and maybe enjoy a little romance if things go smoothly enough. The show casts very attractive young people and sends them to a gorgeous paradise.

Of course, there is a catch. Cast members who want to win the show’s $100,000 cash prize can’t hook up with one another. As is to be expected, a lot of drama comes with this kind of premise. Hotheaded contestants that are looking to have a good time aren’t happy about the Too Hot To Handle rules. Also, fans of the show have constantly questioned the authenticity of the show.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Harry Jowsey, a contestant from season 1, sat down with Cosmopolitan to talk about the specifics of the show. When it comes to parts of the show that may be less authentic than others, Jowsey says that viewers are on to something when they question what they see onscreen. The producers certainly are not shy about stepping into scenes and directing them, to get results that are more palatable for show’s fans. This interview came out before Too Hot To Handle season 2 and Jowsey had much to say. The season 1 alum added that: “In these situations, if they know that you’ve got a problem or you need to have a chat with someone, they’ll just point you in the right direction to get a result, or to get that conversation happening and get to the end goal.”

What is particularly interesting is that there are housemates like Nicole O’Brien (also from season 1) that disagree with Jowsey. O’Brien has gone on the record by saying that everything in the show is 100% authentic. According to her, the show is filmed for a month and is then edited into 10 episodes. It’s probable that the uninteresting stuff is left on the editing floor. Viewers have expressed what they think needs to change for season 2. O’Brien also states that she was unaware of the “no sex rule” going into the show, so her reaction to finding out about it was genuine.

When it comes to the show’s rules, there is no doubt that they are real. They are doled out and contestants do try to make sure that they abide by them for the sake of the cash prize. It may also be safe to assume that before contestants are cast on the show, they have no idea what the show is about. It does seem like producers withhold the “no sex” premise up until the very last minute. Farago seconds this by saying that when she received the green light, all she knew about the show was that she was going to be in the company of attractive people. That fact surely influenced her decision to proceed.

The cast of Too Hot To Handle season 2 kicks things up a notch. Contestants in season 2 are full-on sabotaging one another via the rules of the show, which include no kissing, no petting, no masturbation, and the like. When eliminated, some would purposefully hook up with others in order to deduct from the current cash prize for those still competing. All of this drama makes Too Hot To Handle season 2 well worth watching.
