How Powerful Blue Beetle Is Compared To The DCEU’s Justice League Heroes

How does Blue Beetle’s Jamie Reyes compare to the powerful superheroes in the DCEU’s Justice League? The suit Reyes will be sporting in his new movie was revealed during DC FanDome 2021. The look the movie is giving the character has raised questions about what audiences should expect from his powers.

DC is adding a handful of new characters to its live-action cinematic universe over the next few years. Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and Supergirl (Sasha Calle), are all appearing on the big screen in 2022. In addition to them, Batgirl and Blue Beetle will get their own movies on HBO Max. At DC FanDome 2021, DC finally revealed some concept art for its Blue Beetle movie, which will star Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes. In DC Comics, Reyes is the third incarnation of the Blue Beetle and a superhero who carries an alien device called the Scarab. Through its mysterious power, Reyes can summon an armored suit that sometimes draws comparisons to Marvel’s Iron Man.

Considering Blue Beetle’s costume design doesn’t appear to be deviating that much from the comics, it looks likely that the movie will keep the majority of the suit’s capabilities from the page to the screen. If DC accurately translates his power level to the small screen, Jamie Reyes should be become another DCEU powerhouse. Due to being powered by alien tech superior to anything that humanity is capable of producing, Blue Beetle is levels above Batman, which speaks volumes about the quality of his arsenal. The Scarab can generate all sorts of effective weapons, including swords that can cut through nearly anything, energy canons, and blades that come out of his back to protect him from harm. As advanced as Batman’s own gadgets are, they’re not as durable as deadly as the Scarab.

Most of the DCEU’s human heroes are outclassed by Blue Beetle, but the same can’t be said for its immortal and alien characters, such as Wonder Woman and Superman respectively. Princess Diana possesses a tremendous amount of super strength and some impressive weaponry of her own that would make beating her a considerable challenge for Blue Beetle. With Superman, on the other hand, the power gap is significantly wider. Justice League left little doubt that Superman is in a different league to all DCEU heroes, and it seems reasonable that Blue Beetle is no exception.

The hero that is most comparable with Blue Beetle in the DCEU is Cyborg. As both are humans enhanced by technology, the two have similar powersets and wide ranges of abilities. Given how powerful the Scarab is in DC Comics, Blue Beetle may be more powerful than Cyborg, but it’s hard to say for sure. Either way, he’ll fit well into the DCEU’s stable of heroes and would certainly hold his own if he was ever incorporated into a team-up or a crossover.
