Leading up to the Holiday 2020 release of the PS5, Sony continues to share new information, bit by bit. Fans are obviously hungry for any morsel of information, especially now that Sony has detailed a handful of exclusive games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Horizon: Forbidden West.

Fans know what the actual console looks like, and now Sony has also revealed the official box design of PS5 games. It’s an important detail considering it’s what fans will see each and every time they buy a boxed game.

While the overall shape and size of the box remains the same, the PS5 box design makes some integral changes to fall more in line with the design of the console itself.

How Sony Has Changed PS5 Box Design

The most obvious change is the pure white bar at the top of the box, which is meant to match the new pure white design of the PS5 itself. Interestingly the bar is completely white and doesn’t have a separating line or anything like PS4 boxes do. The other interesting note is that the Mile Morales box doesn’t have the term “Only on PlayStation,” like every first-party exclusive on PS4. Right now it’s hard to say if Sony’s taking the term off of boxes completely, or if there’s simply some reason it isn’ on the Miles Morales box art. There is one other new detail on the bottom of the box, and that’s the PlayStation Studios logo. Earlier in May Sony announced the formation of a new umbrella brand called PlayStation Studios, and it’s clear now that every first-party game will launch with that branding front-and-center on the box. Other than the bar and logo the box design remains virtually the same as the previous generation, right down to the transparent blue design of the box.
