Harry Potter star Rupert Grint reveals how he’s begun to introduce the films to his daughter, Wednesday. It’s been a decade since Grint last appeared in the franchise as Ron Weasley, which lasted for a total of eight films and has since spawned spinoff films Fantastic Beasts. Grint recently reunited with his co-stars in a TV special to celebrate 20 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone introduced the beloved wizarding world to the big screen – although fans had some theories that Grint wasn’t really there for the HBO special.

Following the success of the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Grint has continued to appear in film and TV. However, casting announcements are seemingly becoming more frequent for the actor since the end of 2021. Since appearing in M. Night Shyamalan’s Apple TV show Servant, he’s been confirmed for Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller Knock At The Cabin alongside Jonathan Groff and Dave Bautista. He will also continue his venture into the horror/thriller genres with Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix horror anthology series, Cabinet of Curiosities. In 2020, he perhaps took on his most challenging role yet in becoming a dad, when Grint had a daughter with partner Georgia Groome. He introduced Wednesday to his fans in his first Instagram post, which led to breaking the world record for being the fastest account to reach a million followers on the platform.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Grint discussed his experience of becoming a dad for the first time. When Fallon asked if Grint had introduced Wednesday to Harry Potter yet, the star explained that he’s easing her into the wizarding world by showing her trailers of the films. It looks like she’s going to be an avid fan, having already gotten her hands on some merchandise:

“I’ve already started showing her the trailers. She has a wand and a PEZ dispenser with my head on it.”

It seems like Grint is taking a slow approach to acclimate his daughter to Harry Potter, giving her only teases of the world with the trailer. That seems to be effective at getting Wednesday interested in the movies, based on her small collection of Harry Potter merchandise. It will be interesting to see when Grint decides to show Wednesday the full movies. The earlier Harry Potter installments had a lighter tone highlighting the wonders of magic, but later entries took things in a darker direction. Perhaps Grint will wait until Wednesday is a little older.

Grint’s association to the Harry Potter franchise will undoubtedly give him cool points when his daughter grows up. The universal impact that the characters and fantasy world from the franchise has had already seems to have made an impression on her just from seeing the trailers. However, it might be a while yet before Grint can share his new projects from renowned horror directors Shyamalan and del Toro with her.
