Silicon Valley would prove to be something of a breakout role for Miller and led to other high-profile roles in Deadpool and Ready Player One. There were later reports of tension between Miller and the showrunners and it was confirmed in 2017 that Bachman would be exiting the show.

Silicon Valley season 4 finale “Server Error” provided Erlich with a fittingly dark ending. He accompanies Gavin Belson to Tibet, but when Belson has to travel to China due to a business emergency, he has to drag Bachman along. Erlich eventually gets high in an odium den along the way, with Belson paying the innkeeper enough money to keep him high for five years. That’s the last time Erlich appeared on the show, with Belson later denying he even showed up to Hendricks.

This ending was planned by the showrunners to give Miller the option to rejoin the show for season 5 if he wished, but he opted out of a return. The actor later stated he would never return to the show following his Silicon Valley season 4 exit. Bachman was pretty much hated by all the other characters by the time he was abandoned in Tibet, and fans of the show had grown a little weary of the character too.

While Erlich Bachman’s Silicon Valley season 4 exit may have been somewhat open-ended, Miller is incredibly unlikely to be invited back, following sexual assault allegations made against the actor in 2017, and the actor was later charged for making a fake bomb threat on a train. This led to his part being recast in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and he won’t be returning for Deadpool 3.
