miHoYo’s Genshin Impact has seen massive success since its release. The open world gacha game has seen itself compared to titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild, but with a few key differences. Now, it looks like one of the first games inspired by Genshin Impact has arrived in the form of The Legend Of Neverland, but the game is more than inspired; its eerily similar in some key areas.

The Legend Of Neverland is a recently released mobile MMORPG created and published by GameArk Global. The game is action oriented; combat revolves around using attacks and skills to overcome enemies. Players can actively switch characters in combat just like Genshin Impact, but the similarities don’t end there.

The Legend Of Neverland’s mechanics and design are very much so follow in the footsteps of the popular gacha title. Game mechanics, the looks of characters, and even fonts bear a striking resemblance to Genshin Impact. It is still unknown if miHoYo will note these extreme similarities and take action against the game, but it is a possibility.

How The Legend of Neverland is Exactly Like Genshin Impact

The first thing that stands out is the combat system. Legend of Neverland employs an on-the-fly character switching mechanic, as well as several abilities that each party member can use. The player is joined by a spirit named Miru who serves a role very akin to Paimon, the mascot of Genshin Impact. Even characters themselves bear a likeness to the Genshin Impact crew. A recruitable party member in Neverland looks eerily similar to Genshin Impact’s Amber, one of the first characters players encounter in Genshin Impact.

Perhaps the most egregious examples of similarity are in the promotional materials. Industry figure Daniel Ahmad posted a tweet comparing some of the locales and promotional materials of the two games. An advertisement for the mobile MMO has a view that lifts directly from Genshin’s promotional material. As seen in the second image, both games feature a town with a windmill on the right side, as well as a pointed cliff intercepting the skyline on the left. Both games use a cavalcade of anime-esque playable characters starring towards the viewer to entice them to play. Even the fonts themselves bear a resemblance to each other. The fonts The Legend of Neverland uses are a near exact copy of Genshin Impact’s in-game fonts.

Genshin Impact has no doubt had an impact on the Legend of Neverland developers. Being inspired is one thing, but sometimes inspiration goes too far into the territory of copycatting. Whether this new addition to the mobile market will be able to compete with the popularity of Genshin Impact remains to be seen.
