How to Add (& Remove) Friends on PlayStation 5

Sony’s stocking problems, coupled with high demand and a surge of scalpers, have prevented many players from getting their hands on a PlayStation 5 during 2021. However, those who have managed to acquire a console should be seeing many upgrades to the system as well as some changes that might leave them a bit disoriented. Because the interface on the PS5 is quite different from the PS4’s version, players may be wondering how to manage familiar features, including their friends list.

This feature allows players to stream a game from a PS5 to another device, after which a friend can either join in or take over as the owner’s character. This feature, along with several others, will first require players to be added as friends in the PlayStation Network.

How to Manage the Friends List on Playstation 5

To add a friend on the PlayStation 5, players should turn on their console and press the PS button on the DualSense controller. Then, they will need to select Game Base, the fourth tab from the bottom-left of the screen, and scroll down to choose View All Friends. From there, players can select the Search tab and search for a friend’s name or ID, navigate to their profile, and select Add Friend under the player’s PS5 avatar. To check received or sent friend requests, players can return to Game Base and select Friend Requests to the left of the Search tab.

To remove a friend from the PlayStation 5’s friend list, players can once again access Game Base by pressing the PS button on the controller and navigating to the fourth tab at the bottom. They will need to scroll down to View All Friends and select the Friends tab, which is to the left of Friend Requests. Players can then select the friend they wish to remove, choose the three dots next to it to open the options menu, and click Remove From Friends.
