The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade introduces a large variety of new content to expand the world of Gaia, and the story of Avalanche versus Shinra. Amongst other content, the INTERmission DLC also introduces a selection of new bosses for the player to defeat. One of these is Scarlet.

Scarlet is Shinra’s director of Advanced Weaponry, and one of the bosses available to defeat in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. Here’s how she attacks, and how to beat her.

How to Beat Scarlet in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade

In this DLC boss fight, players must battle Scarlet. Scarlet fights the party by operating her robot Crimson Mare, and defeating her will grant the player the Ultimate Materia required in the war against Shinra.

In the first phase of the fight, the Crimson Mare will perform both melee and long-range attacks. Here are all the moves from the boss’s first phase, and how to counter them.

  • Bullet Barrage: Crimson Mare attacks with a spray of bullets. Running sideways at the right time can dodge the bullets. Use this time running to get close for a counter-attack.
  • Flame Spire: The player’s spot becomes flammable for a brief period. As long as the player doesn’t stand in one spot, this attack can be dodged.
  • Directive: Deploy: Scarlet summons Sentry Launchers. Let the party split up, with someone dealing with the Sentries while someone else attacks the Crimson Mare.
  • Directive Cover Fire: Crimson Mare’s blade becomes engulfed in flames. Avoid the boss completely until the flames are gone.

Once the Crimson Mare’s HP reaches 75%, it will enter its second phase and replace its swords with Makocannons. Make sure to attack the Crimson Mare’s Makocannons as much as possible whenever they are not shooting. Here are all the moves from the second phase, and how to avoid them.

  • Makocannon Beam: Crimson Mare attacks with a beam using its cannon arms. Running sideways will dodge the attack, and then the player can rush towards the boss for a counter strike.
  • Makocannon Missiles: Crimson Mare shoots rocket missiles towards the player. Run towards the pillars to dismantle these missiles.

When the Crimson Mare’s HP reaches 50%, it will enter a third phase, where it will equip a long sword, Claymore, and a Shield. Using lightning abilities on the Claymore will take it down faster, and this is what players should focus on during this phase.

Finally, when the Crimson Mare’s HP approaches zero, it will enter the fourth phase. During this phase, its arms will switch back to Makocannons. This is the only phase in which the player can target Scarlet directly, which will let players kill her and end the battle. Scarlet uses a special move that reveals herself during this phase.

  • Revivify: Scarlet revives the Crimson Mare if its HP drops to zero. When she is in this state, attack Scarlet herself until she is forced to eject herself from the machine.

Finishing off the battle will gift players 61 SP and Time Materia. The battle can be difficult, but understanding Scarlet’s moveset will make countering the Crimson Mare a much easier challenge, and allow players to defeat Scarlet with ease.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
