Leveling up one’s skills and talents in an action RPG requires a little bit of time and patience. In Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, Sega is certainly pushing that patience a bit further, by requiring players to take a few extra measures to secure their class skill points. Simply leveling up, no longer satisfies the requirement.

Each class requires its own skill points, making it impossible to apply any points freely. To this end, players have to start over each time they want to experiment with a class previously untouched. Skill points unlock a host of abilities and improvements, including some that can be attached to the sub-palette, and used strategically during battle. Here’s how players can obtain, and utilize their skill points.

How to Earn Skill Points in Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis

Accumulating skill points is the same for each class, but the process might become a little repetitive over time considering the method. Dotted around Halpha are large metallic buildings shining a bright metallic black with neon blue lights. These are called Towers and Cocoons. Each of these buildings houses a challenge for players to complete and gain rewards from. The challenges are timed once players activate the teleporter inside, moving them to the challenge area.

Once the challenge is completed successfully, a skill point or more is awarded at the end. While others may be different, for a number of these challenges, if players complete them within a certain amount of time, they will be rewarded a little something extra. After earning the skill point, head back to town and apply it at the class counter to reap the benefits. This process has to be done repeatedly for each class, meaning, doing all the Cocoons 6 times each (currently).

Leveling up is still crucial to unlocking more Cocoons and skill points since some areas are locked behind a power-level cap. And those that may be open to everyone, might have enemies at a much higher level than what the players can handle at any given moment. If doing some early hunting for these Cocoons is preferred, move quickly and stop for nothing or risk being annihilated by the enemies lurking nearby. Each Cocoon has a different challenge or some variation on whatever players encounter, so leveling might still matter since the challenge inside may require it.
