Cosmetics are nothing new to MMORPGs like New World, and most of them have some variation of World of Warcraft‘s “transmogrify” function. New World has taken a slightly different approach to cosmetics, however, instead following the more FPS-typical skin system. This is a nice way to personalize a player’s experience in the MMO, similar to New World’s houses. There are a few different ways to acquire and equip skins in the game.

To get skins in New World, players can purchase them from the in-game shop or earn them through Twitch drops and Prime Gaming rewards. Some players even earned exclusive skins in the New World beta ahead of the official release. There is already a pretty decent variety of skins in the game, but it is important that players know how to actually use the skins that they acquire, no matter what weapons or gear they use in New World.

Applying skins to New World gear is a straightforward process, and it can be done at any point during the game. Before attempting to apply any skins, players will need to make sure that a skin has either been purchased or earned and claimed on the player’s account. If not, the option to add a skin may not appear at all.

How to Equip Skins in New World

To equip gear skins in New World, players must press Tab to get to the inventory screen and navigate to the piece of gear that has a skin available. This can be a piece of armor, a shield, or a weapon of any type. Once the item has been located, players will need to right-click it to open the drop-down menu. Then, they can choose the Change Skin option. If Change Skin is not available in the menu, that means that no skin has been purchased or earned for that particular piece.

This option will open a list of all the skins players own for that item. Players can click their preferred skin, and it will be applied so long as that item is equipped. More skins can be purchased through the in-game store, or by watching Twitch streams that have drops enabled. Twitch drops show up as a small banner on the stream itself with the Twitch Crown logo on it and can be clicked to expose what reward has been earned. Drops can only be claimed once the Twitch account has a connected New World login.
