How to Escape Any Ghost in Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a game where players are expected to investigate a location for paranormal activity. They are expected to determine what kind of ghost dwells in the area and complete a variety of side objectives. Players can also collect an array of photo evidence in order to gain some extra cash.

But these ghosts are not exactly harmless. All of them can become quite hostile and can kill any players inside the building. So it would be beneficial for players to know how to escape the ghost regardless of what type it is. There are a few items that can help the player out in this regard, but there are also a few tactics the player can employ as well.

Feel Free to Leave Early in Phasmophobia

It may be a bit lackluster and cowardly, but leaving early is always an option.  There’s nothing preventing the players from just packing up, ignoring their objectives, and opting to live another day. Naturally, this will result in the players not gaining a lot of money and a potential waste of resources. But hey, at least the players escaped with their lives. They might even save themselves from unnecessary item usage if they believe their team will be wiped out by an extremely hostile ghost.

Keep in mind that leaving the building is only possible when the ghost is not in its hunting phase. When a ghost enters its hunting phase, the doors leading out of the building will all be locked and will remain that way until the hunting phase has ended.

Use Crucifixes and Smudge Sticks in Phasmophobia

Another way to escape from the ghost is to simply make it to where they are unable to attack the player. It will not work indefinitely, and it is not foolproof, but using crucifixes properly can prevent the ghosts from killing the player. It does this by preventing the ghost from entering its hunting phase. But this ability only works if the ghost is nearby when it is attempting to enter the hunting phase. It will also only block the hunting phase for a total of two times before disappearing.

Thus, players can get the most use out of the crucifix if they locate the ghost room beforehand and place the crucifix in there. In some cases, this crucifix placement will all but ensure that the hunting phase is blocked regardless of where the players are because of how the building is relatively small. This includes street houses, farmhouses, and roadhouses. Maps like the asylum and high school, however, are simply too large for a single crucifix to cover.

In which case the player needs to default to using smudge sticks to ward off the ghost. Once lit by a lighter, these smudge sticks can prevent the ghost from entering the same area of the smudge stick. If there is another teammate within the building who is not within range of the smudge stick effect, the ghost will go after them instead.

But regardless of which items are used, it is important to understand that these can only buy the player time and will not prevent the ghost from attacking the player indefinitely. So when these items are used, players are advised to complete their objectives or take evidence photos as quickly as possible and then exit the building.
