During Chapter 4 of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, players will meet with Lady Hellbender and try to sell her one of their companions. If players choose to sell Rocket to Lady Hellbender, they will eventually find themselves locked in her vault. There are a few steps that must be completed in order to escape the vault and the poisonous gas pouring into it.

The choice to sell Rocket or Groot comes at the beginning of Chapter 3 and will be confirmed later just before Chapter 4 starts. The levels are repeatable and players can make the alternate decision when going through Chapter 3 again, but the initial choice will always remain the same in Chapter 4. For those that want to experience both options, the game will need to be restarted. Players who sell Rocket will be met with heavy resistance.

After fighting through some of Lady Hellbender’s minions, Rocket will point out her vault and hack his way in. The loot inside will cover the team’s Nova Corps fine of either 7,000 or 8,000 units depending on which contraband players stashed in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the team gets trapped in the vault, and Lady Hellbender releases poisonous gas inside. To escape, players will need to use the skills of a few different team members by commanding them to interact with the environment.

Escaping Lady Hellbender’s Vault in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Using GotG‘s playable character, Star-Lord, players can identify areas of interest. The character’s visor will highlight the vents where the gas is coming through, as well as the loot in the area and the method of escape. Players should immediately use Star-Lord’s ice shot to freeze the vents and temporarily stop the flow of poisonous gas. This may need to be done multiple times depending on how long it takes to escape.

Before leaving, be sure to collect the maximum amount of 12,000 units available in the vault. The units will be shown as small bowls and will be highlighted when using the visor. After collecting the units, players can escape the vault by issuing squad orders to the other guardians. Look up to identify and scan the top of the lighting fixture, then send Gamora to cut it down. Once it crashes to the ground, scan the wall with the crack in it, then use Drax to throw the light at the wall.

In between steps, players will likely need to freeze the vents again, or the poisonous gas might take out the team before they can escape. After breaking free, Lady Hellbender will confront the GotG with her Dweller-In-Darkness. This will be the first boss fight players encounter, so they should be prepared for a long, multi-phase battle after escaping the vault.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
