In a game that seems like a mix between Pokémon and Cave StoryMonster Sanctuary will have players exploring environments and training their various monster companions as they go about their journey. These monsters all have their own skill trees that the player can help develop so they can overcome various challenges that can be found in the game, which can range from tough combat to difficult platforming.

But as with any game that involves capturing monsters, the question inevitably comes up as to whether they can transform or evolve their monsters in some manner. That way their non-human companion can get a cool new look and probably get a new power set. Evolution is available in the game, but it is entirely aesthetic. While the evolved monster may get a new form, they won’t gain any additional skills or stats. It’s mostly just a way to make a monster look cooler. But the option is available nonetheless.

How to Evolve Monsters in Monster Sanctuary

Evolving a monster will involve visiting a specific location with a monster while possessing a specific catalyst. Catalysts are special items that are exclusively used for monster evolution, and each catalyst can only be used with a specific monster. So if the player wants to evolve a Vaero, then they need to find its specific catalyst, which in this case is a Silver Feather. If the player wants to evolve a Minitaur, then they need to find the Shard of Winter catalyst. These catalysts can be found in reward boxes, as rare drops from certain monsters, and as loot in specific chests in certain regions. If the player keeps on traveling and looting, they will eventually find a few.

Once the monster and its respective catalyst are retrieved, then the player will need to head to the Ancient Woods. It is located in the eastern part of the sanctuary and can easily be identified by its lush green forests and various woodland monsters.

Lore states that this area is the only remaining part of the Old World and that the giant tree in its depths is where the war between the Keepers and Old World Kings were ended. This very tree, the Tree of Evolution, is where players need to go if they want to evolve their monsters. Simply interact with it and use the catalyst and the player will have their monster evolve.

Monster Sanctuary is available on PCs, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X/S
