How to Find a Chest of Ancient Tributes in Sea of Thieves

The action-adventure pirate game Sea of Thieves is back once again with a new update that brings even more content. The update is called Vaults of the Ancients and is the 19^th major update to the game since it released in 2018. This update brings the best thing players could ever ask for, dogs! They can be purchased with Ancient Coins from the Pirate Emporium. Like other pets, they can be dressed up in costumes and petted, and they dance to music, and are absolutely adorable!

The update also adds a new voyage type for the Gold Hoarders faction. Following this voyage all the way through rewards players with a Chest of Ancient Tributes. There are many steps to get there though, with plenty of dangers along the way.

Finding the Chest of Ancient Tributes in Sea of Thieves

First, the players must obtain the appropriate voyage from a Gold Hoarders representative. They can be found in a tent on the beach of any of the outposts. If the player is rank 25 with the Gold Hoarders, they can purchase the Wayfinder Voyage, which begins the adventure.

After all, players have voted for the voyage, they gain a Golden Compass. Instead of pointing north like a regular compass, it points to a specific location. Upon reaching the correct spot, the compass starts spinning. Players will have to get out their shovels and dig, and possibly fend off skeletons. What they will find is a Torn Map Parchment.

Now, the compass will point the way to the next map piece. Players go there, dig it up, and so on until they have a complete map. Players then travel to the location marked on the map with a red X. Upon digging there, players will uncover a chest with a key inside. The key will have the name of an island, and a key type that depends on the level of the voyage. There is also an inscription that gives a hint to the location of the vault.

If they so choose, players can just sell the key at an outpost for a good amount of gold, but what fun is that? It’s also needed to get the Chest of Ancient Tributes.

Once the players find the correct place, at the entrance to the vault is a pedestal in which they can place the key. There is plenty of gold and a lot of chests to pick up inside the vault, but they must be quick because the door will slowly start closing. After about three minutes, the door closes, and the vault will fill all the way up with water. Players will want to make sure they and all their valuable loot are outside the vault before that happens.

It is here in the vault that the Chest of Ancient Tributes is located. To get the chest, players will look for medallions. There are three of them total within the vault, and putting them in the central stone table reveals the symbols needed for the first three stone pillars. Players must guess at the last one, but upon getting all of them correct, it opens up a hidden compartment with the Chest of Ancient Tributes. All that remains is to sell the chest to the Gold Hoarders representative and on the way there not get sunk by any of the numerous dangers upon the Sea of Thieves.
